Outside of cats and dogs, probably birds, especially parrots. Pigs, donkeys, and raccoons make great pets too. I would own a raccoon if I could.

its entirely dependent on the individual

cats are better for lazy people, clean freaks with OCD, people with expensive items in their house (the cat will be declawed obviously or have plastic caps glued on), people who live in colder climates and can't go out every day for walks, obese people, the elderly, people with small children, people who travel a lot or are rarely home, single people that work long hours, people with roommates, people who like peace and quiet, people that like to get a full 8 hours sleep, people that want more than one or two pets, people that hate other people and don't wanna have to talk to every idiot walking by them, people with a ton of money and don't wanna risk lawsuits. it's also far less expensive to feed a cat. and picking up giant logs of steaming hot shit is never fun. and I know most dog owners rarely if ever admit to doing it but a lot do it and it's the most degrading shit ever.

the list could go on forever


dogs are made for outgoing couples, adventurous maternal loving people, attention seekers, talkative people, mamas boy types, rugged people who don't care about dog hair getting everywhere. they have the same furniture they've always had. they don't care that their house smells bad and most don't even realize it. they want kids someday, they have no time for friends anymore, they hate being inside and love being active and bringing their dog in the car, they drive something worth a few grand, their only valuables are a wedding ring and some beer at most. they love talking to their pets. they love cuddling with animals and being shown tons of love and attention from them. a dog can definitely fill a void for these people



all that being said the best pets to have other than these 2 are capuchin monkeys. but I always thought it would be cool to have a pet fox. they sound funny

and you can just leave them outside all year even during the winter. just toss some raw meat in the back yard
