Reading some of the public record stuff around this, the people 1.) don't believe a project of this size is appropriate for their buttf*ck-middle-of-nowhere town and 2.) resist the idea that some mega developer wants to use their town to make an easy buck.

The proposed housing costs relative peanuts to build, will net the developer $40-50 million in sales and tens of millions more in tax credits and federal/state subsidies when they're done. All the community will be left with is a 10-20% population increase and an increased tax burden to provide services to these folks.

If I lived there, I'd tell this developer to get f*cked.

Edit: this isn't proposing housing projects where would-be criminals sling rocks on the corner. This is proposing to build 130+ $300,000 homes in a town of 3,700 people.

This"affordable housing" development plan is really about changing zoning rules so that more houses can be packed into the same area and potential tax credits, increasing profits for the developer. Chappelle is looking out for his current community. That much he can handle as one man. He can't look out for the entire world unfortunately, but he can help the current residents of the town.

Notice that most of the news sources attacking him for being against "affordable housing" are the typical liberal elite voice boxes? They are still upset over his transgender jokes :facepalm
