Is this real? Apparently the official coveted all time scoring list had lebron trailing Kareem by 2000 points. But I’m confused. It means regular season points? Not including playoff points? Ok I get it. The regular season is the best metric to weigh all time scorers since not all scorers get to play extra games in the playoffs. But if you include playoff points then lebron is 18 points away from putting in the most sanctioned points in the entire recorded and officiated history of basketball and no one is talking about it? WTF

Please tell me this stat is fake.

i think the reason playoff points aren't counted is because teams played 3 rounds up until like 1983 i think and then first round series were best of 3 till like 2002

so kareem missed out on like 12 first round series that woulda got him between 1,382 to 2,419 points (4 to 7 games worth) based on his 28.8ppg average over that span during the playoffs

and from 1984 to 1989 the exta 1-2 games in first round series would have given him between 115 to 230 points (1-2 games extra worth) based on his 19.2ppg average over that span during the playoffs

giving kareem a playoff point total of between 7,259 and 8,411 under the same playoff format lebron james was given

lebrons 7,631 would be well behind those amounts averaged out

Either way, it's just a longevity stat...they're cute, but don't move the needle much in rankings.

Especially when you take into account the inflated stats of today and stat padding.

All the other blemishes, collusions and lack of skill still exist

Maybe nobody really cares? KAJ has the all time point record, and nobody has him as GOAT. So once Lebum gets the record, it's not going to change anyone's opinion about him being GOAT either. His nutthuggers like Beezleblubber and GoatTits had him as #1 before, and they still will after he breaks the record. The rest of the sane people will still recognize that he's 4/10, -86 with epic chokes like 2011. Longevity doesn't change that.

If I looked hard enough, I could probably find a few people that have Iverson as GOAT too.

But this Taylor guy's opinion is just that - one guy's opinion. Just like yours or mine. And it's a very, very, very minority opinion.

No it's not. I've seen a bunch of people have Kareem as the GOAT, only reason you don't see more people having him there is because he had a dull personality and he peaked during a time where nobody cared about the NBA. MJ got a huge boost by marketing and media, media in particular did a nice job having everyone believe MJ was untouchable.

It's kinda like boxing, if you ask a casual fan who is the greatest boxer, most likely they will say Ali, he had a vibrant personality, more media exposure, he was an icon in the civil rights movement and peaked when Boxing was extremely popular. But if you ask hardcore fans and boxing historians who the GOAT boxer is, most likely they will say it's Sugar Ray Robinson.

It's generally not useful to argue over something that's completely subjective. Everyone has their own all time rankings.

However, the percentage of basketball fans who rank KAJ as #1 is far less than boxing fans who have SRR over Ali.

There are quite a few hard core fans on here, but I see literally nobody arguing that KAJ is #1. Maybe there's a person or two, but I haven't seen them. I mean, you even see people trying to argue that Kobe is #1, which frankly, I think is ludicrous.

Lebron played with Shaq who won league mvp and 3 finals mvp's and lost in round 2. Lebron played with Peak Duncan who had won 2 league mvp's and 3 finals mvp's and won bronze medal. Lebron played with Peak Wade who won finals mvp and got outplayed by Jason Terry. Lebron played with Derrick Rose who won mvp under age 30 which was the same as Kevin Durant who won mvp under 30 while both were on Golden State and Cleveland. Lebron played with mulitple PER leaders as well and now Russell Westbrook a league mvp winner and more triple doubles than Oscar Robertson. Yet despite all of that Lebron lost with all of them.

http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?500416-Why-did-Pelinka-surround-Lebron-with-a-bullshit-roster
He has peak Anthony Davis, the best player on the 2020 squad and the reason the Lakers did anything as the 2019 Lakers missed the playoffs and 2021 Lakers lost in round 1 when AD wasn't around. He has Prime Melo who won a scoring title and all time leader in scoring for the Olympics. He has Dwight Howard a 3x DPOY and a guy who beat Lebron without HCA. He has Westbrook who is the modern day Oscar Robertson and also won league mvp along with average a Triple Double 4 years in a row. He also has Rondo who is a hall of famer.

Why didn't he play it against Dwight Howard in 2009 when Dwight was dominating http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?459570-How-is-it-even-possible-to-lose-to-Dwight-Howard-in-a-series-with-HCA/page10? Or against Duncan or KG or Dirk? Why did he run away from KD a guy at his position?

Both 0-2 with HCA against 50+ win teams until they joined forces with someone who won as the man. Also won bronze medals.

Tmac lost to Utah in 2007 while Lebron was losing to a career loser in Dwight Howard and also Carlos Arroyo in the Olympics with peak Tim Duncan on his squad despite playing more minutes than Hakeem even played on the 1996 Olympic team.

Lebron quit on the Cavs and they burned his jersey and held his family hostage. He also only won 1 title for the franchise that drafted him which is pathetic in 11 years. Imagine someone getting credit when they lose with Shaq and only get to round 2 and they lose with peak Duncan getting bronze medal.
