LMAO @ 40-42 record MVP.
He doesn't deserve all of the ones he has. Karl Malone was the MVP in 1998: Exact same record, but better stats.

i always find it funny how jordan and lebron fans both cry about their guy deserving more mvps when in fact both guys should probably have less if they were given the same standards as everyone else
if another mvp candidate has a better record they usually win the award. only when a guy does something historic like westbrook does someone win the award with an average record like jordan had in 1988. its obvious bird should have been ahead of him based on the biased criteria the media used to keep it out of kobes hands in 2003 or 2006
not to mention lebron winning 2 of his awards AFTER colluding with miami... like come on. the media said kobe and shaq couldn't win it in 2001 or 2002 cause they had each other lol. and they didn't even collude. durant colluded with the warriors and neither him or curry had any shot at mvp either. but lebron can win it with 2 other prime hall of famers
if you go year by year the media critera mvp's are
1985 - Bird ( 29/11/7 with best overall record )
1986 - Bird ( 26/10/7 with best overall record )
1987 - Magic ( 24/6/12 with best overall record )
1988 - Bird ( 30/9/6 with 1st seed in east 57 wins over 50 win chicago )
1989 - Kevin Johnson ( 20/4/12 with 2nd seed 55 wins. all the top seeds had nobody else that really stood out )
1990 - Magic Johnson ( 22/7/12 with best overall record )
1991 - Michael Jordan ( 32/6/5 with best overall record )
1992 - Michael Jordan ( 30/6/6 with best overall record )
1993 - Charles Barkley ( 26/12/5 with best overall record )
1994 - Hakeem Olajuwon ( 27/12/4 with best overall record )
1995 - David Robinson ( 28/11/3 with best overall record )
1996 - Michael Jordan ( 30/7/4 with best overall record by far )
1997 - Michael Jordan ( 30/6/4 with best overall record )
1998 - Karl Malone ( 27/10/4 with best overall record )
so 4 for MJ would actually be the correct amount

How the fck should Jordan have been MVP winning 40 games in '87 :oldlol:

for lebrons years with media criteria
2004 - Kevin Garnett ( 24/14/5 with best overall record )
2005 - Amare Stoudemire ( 26/9/2/2 with best overall record. far better stats than nash )
2006 - Dirk Nowitzki ( 27/9/3 with a few less wins than 1st seed spurs and way better stats than duncan )
2007 - Dirk Nowitzki ( 25/9/3 with best overall record by far )
2008 - Kobe Bryant ( 28/6/5 with best record by any mvp candidate. detroit and boston had nobody with good stats )
2009 - Lebron James ( 28/7/7 with best overall record )
2010 - Lebron james ( 30/7/8 with best overall record )
2011 - Derrick Rose ( 25/4/8 with best overall record )
2012 - Kevin Durant ( 28/8/4 with best record of any mvp candidate. spurs and bulls had no one )
2013 - Kevin Durant ( 28/8/5 with best record of any mvp candidate with lebron on colluded big 4 )
2014 - Kevin Durant ( 32/7/6 with best record of any mvp candidate. nobody on spurs stood out )
2015 - Steph Curry ( 24/4/8 with best overall record )
2016 - Steph Curry ( 30/5/7 with best overall record by far )
2017 - James Harden ( 29/8/11 with best record of any mvp candidate )
2018 - James Harden ( 30/5/9 with best overall record )
2019 - Giannis Antetokounmpo ( 28/13/6 with best record of any mvp candidate )
2020 - Giannis Antetokounmpo ( 30/14/6 with best overall record )
2021 - Nikola Jokic ( 26/11/8 with best record of any candidate. Embiid, booker and mitchell missed too many games )
so by the league criteria lebron should have 2 mvps and at most 3 if you don't discount his ring chasing. whats for sure is he never deserved it any other year and he stole it from durant in 2012 100%

How the fck should Jordan have been MVP winning 40 games in '87 :oldlol:
Team records are media criteria. Personally I never put much value into it.
For example, I think this season Jokic is the clear MVP despite his team being only slightly above .500.

right now jokic is clearly the league mvp like kobe was in 06 and 07 duh
but the media desperately wants to give it to embiid for some reason. wonder why that is

Hindsight being 20/20
1981 - Julius Erving
1982 - George Gervin
1983 - Moses Malone
1984 - Moses Malone(2)
1985 - Larry Bird
1986 - Larry Bird(2)
1987 - Larry Bird(3)
1988 - Michael Jordan (1)
1989 - Magic Johnson

1997 - Karl Malone
1998 - Reggie Miller
1999 - Allen Iverson
2000 -Shaquille O'Neal
2001 - Tim Duncan
2002 - Tracy McGrady
Controversial choices, but I feel like Jordan really shouldn't have gotten a second MVP until he won a ring. Barkley had his breakout season in 1990, and John Stockton set the all-time record for assists per season. In 1998 I would give it to Reggie for turning the Pacers around. Gervin, Shaq, Iverson, and McGrady all should have gotten MVP's when they were the top scorers

Why does kobe only have one?
cause under the media criteria that's all he deserved. its more based on having the best overall record and kobes hurt almost every year or in a rebuilding situation or sharing with another guy and taking a step back. Kobe only really showcased his full output in 2003 before shaq started crying and then in 2006 and 2007. he realized it's better to just make others happy

Good question
its really not. I agree with it. under the most used criteria "mvp candidate with the best record" kobe only deserved one
its more of a team award. which is why lebron only ever deserved 2 or 3 tops even with all his ring chasing. it's hard getting the best record and playing around 80 games

not really. Paul had a worse record. lost their head to head at the end of the year when voters couldn't make up their minds. and David west made the allstar game that year while Pau missed it. and hindsight is 20/20 but at the time people thought Pau was a scrub 1 time allstar in 7 years and was 0-12 in the playoffs that was someone else's trash. he had a soft image around the league at the time. plus kobe never won it yet and was getting old. the media didn't wanna give kobe one obviously cause of the rape thing and shaq feud then the lebronmania. but it was a perfect storm for kobe cause the only teams with better records had guys averaging like 19ppg tops
kobe basically ran away with it based on the criteria
