View Full Version : Ben Simmons & Lebron are unprecedented talents

Big men physiques and elite athletes with point guard handle/skillset.

So Ben has been an all-time talent ever since he first made scouts salivate in Australia years ago.

That's why his pairing with another all-time talent in Durant is so scary.. They will actually fit perfectly together, while Embiid was the worst fit possible (yet they still nearly beat Kawhi in 19').

A reminder of how talented Ben is - so don't be surprised if the Nets are a force now that he's playing with someone his game fits with.

Imagine if Iggy was ranked top 30 all-time - he'd be the most overrated player ever

That's Pippen

Pippen had the lowest peak capability among 90's sidekicks (22/5), and he was the only sidekick that never led his team in a series (never a 1b)

He's overrated by over 100 spots, so much more overrated than Lebron

The Sixers had Butler that year - that's true - so it wasn't just Embiid/Simmons.. But the fact that Embiid/Simmons continued to each year despite the horrible fit speaks to Simmons all-time talent level.. Everyone knew how talented he was and expects teams that he's on to be good.. That will be true with Durant more than ever.

Furthermore, in addition to being a great fit on paper (ball-dominator and closer), Simmons provides Durant with some of that banging physicality that Durant lacks - Simmons athleticism wears teams down so the Nets won't face super-fresh offenses - this means they can win games easier without requiring insane defense against fresh offenses - Durant/Simmons are poised to win the attrition battle.

Uh no it speaks to Embiids all time talent level.

Embiid isn't an all-time talent

He's super-skilled though

Simmons is the all-time talent (6'10" elite athlete PG - only Lebron is similar)..

Simmons is an athletic force

but his lack of shooting and great post up ability doesn't fit with Embiid's Hakeem style... Harden won't fit with a fellow iso'er like Embiid either, but it won't be oil and water like Simmons.. Harden doesn't post a d can shoot a little

He’s a 7 foot, 290 pound center who ISOs like Kobe and brings it on the defensive end unlike pretty much anyone playing right now.

Yea...he’s an all time talent. If he’s able to stay healthy going forward it will be more clear. Injuries already kind of sapped him of a couple peak years.

Embiid's physical advantage isn't that strong in comparison to other guys... He isn't blowing by anyone like Kobe - he's only using Kobe's moves and feetwork (skill).. Even Bird had unprecedented size for a shooter-passer - so he was more talented by virtue of being bigger than all shooters and passers, while Embiid isn't bigger or faster than Robinson, Hakeem, Shaq, Wilt and many more.. Or Garnett, AD, Duncan...Many more probably... Peak Isaac Austin would give Embiid a run for his money talent-wise (okay maybe that's a little far).. Embiid is basically what any number of good centers from the 80's and 90's would be today

Otoh, Simmons has a physical advantage like Bird, but a different kind of physical advantage... again, he's like Lebron as the only 6'10 elite athlete PG skillsets ever

So Bird having unprecedented size for a shooter/passer equals all time talent but a 7 foot, 290 pound center who you agreed has Kobe moves and “feetwork”...doesn’t?

And a “PG” who has absolutely no ability to shoot a basketball..does? Interesting

Lots of guys use Kobe feetwork like Hakeem, Giannis or Shaq, except they're all more talented.. AD might even be more talented.. Robinson or Wilt certainly were

Embiid is nice don't get me wrong.. Not sure he has all-time talent though, while the talent advantage of guys like Lebron or Simmons is more obvious (the only 6'10 elite athlete PG's ever)

Embiid was nice coming out of college but viewed more as a polished, skill guy than a raw talent

Simmons is a wank.

I would have preferred to watch him get fined for the remainder of his contract and rot in Philly.

Doesn't deserve to earn the money he does and get to play basketball.

Ok...regardless of whether or not Embiid is an "all time talent" isn't really relevant anyway. The reason the sixers were good speaks to him as a player, not Simmons as a talent. Hence why they're still good despite Simmons not playing.
