The play in was implemented in November 2020, a month after the Lakers won the title and would've never been expected to need the play in to make the playoffs.

Brony might not even make it through the play-in this year though. Next year they might have to change the rule so all teams are in the playoffs. :lol

The way their season was going, there was a decent chance they weren't going to make the top 8 seeds. They ended up 7 though.

I don't understand this post.

There was a very real chance the Lakers were going to end up 9th seed, thus not making the playoffs without a play-in. As it turned out, AD came back from injuries and the Lakers ended up 7th seed. So they would have made the playoffs whether there was a play-in or not.

What don't you understand?

But that...didn't happen. Thus our confusion as to why you're mentioning it.

Imagine being so emotionally fragile that you can't handle someone criticizing a pro basketball player.

Pathetic.

Ok so you’re saying that they had such an injury issue to their top 2 guys in the second half of the season that it looked like the might miss the playoffs for a minute....but ended up making it easily.

Cool story.

This thread is just nuts. OP is making an obvious agenda-driven argument that is not based on facts..

When the play-in was implemented into the league, the Lakers had come off a championship run. They were also the favorites to lead the west conference in wins and were seen as championship favorites to repeat. Nobody knew that Schroeder and Harrell would not fit or that things would fall apart due to significant injuries to the roster. That all happened long after the play-in was already integrated into the league.

Yep, that's what I was saying. Glad you liked the story.

Now of course, the play-in wasn't started to benefit the Lakers. But the funny thing about it is that when it was first announced it looked like the Lakers would easily cruise to a playoff seed, and Lebron came out and said that whoever came up with the idea should be fired. Later on, when it looked like they might need the play-in just to get in the playoffs, it was all crickets from Brony. :lol

I think the play-in was made for Lebron and older players to give them a rest before the playoffs.

It was also made to sell important games to get good ratings
