No shit. The problem is that players stopped being creative with their dunks. Rich did it 18 years ago, I believe that dunk has been already done multiple times so obviously it's not going to get the same reaction.
Toppins dunk was weak and he barely got it. Richardson got it with ease and hammered it down. Back in the day it was original, now it's just a ripoff.
That's like questioning why people like the exact same original movie more than the shitty transgender watered down libtard remake.
Like Lebron, these dudes today are a bunch of metrosexuals with small pp power.
Based.

Dunk contest has been mediocre since 2016
I don't care about all star weekend anymore the novelty of it has worn off for me

Bull-SHITT to both of these.
Obi hammered it all the way down without the ball touching the rim whatsoever.
Richardson let go of the ball before it went entirely down and it hit the rim.
Richardson started his dunk attempt just inside the three point line.
Obi started the dunk attempt just behind the free throw line.

The only difference is that it was much easier to impress in ye olden days.

Dunk contest is an artform, not a contest of difficulty.

its not the dunks. it's the attempts. they were good dunks. some lame ones but overall the ones they actually made after 10 tries every time we're solid. a few woulda easily got 10s if done first try
but that didn't happen.

Skill challenge, rising stars or rookie vs sophomore, 3point and dunk contests all feel silly and unnecessary to me. Allstar game is a cool concept but that becomes cringe too if players dont care about winning.

Needs to limit to 3 attempts that's it. So what of the ball slips out, it's an attempt.
Also, speaking of attempts. The skills challenge, you should actually have to make the field goals. Once you get a certain amount up, you're free to go. Matters if it went in or not.

Yeah, because what was once considered spectacular and super human is now a run of the mill dunk. Same goes for offensive scoring moves, now days a guy coming off the bench is capable of pulling off moves reserved for superstars back then. We've all become numb and unappreciative as fans lol.

This.
It's about aesthetics and style and power, not the "technical difficulty".
The younger nerd generation doesn't get swag though, they're good kids who think if they do what teacher asks then they should get a high score.
That ain't it.
Jason Richardson made a statement with that dunk, power and explosiveness and anger.
The thing is there are many much better power and style dunkers they could have chosen such as Okungwo or Diallo.
These guys were just bad and don't have the will to bring it.

Star players don't even join the Slam Dunk contest nowadays.
But star player don't equal better dunker. 2014 had John wall, paul george and lillard.... 2015 was better
