Awesome video on Scottie Pippen's defensive impact on the '98 finals. Briefly covers the illegal defense rules scheme that existed and how the rules enforced spacing. I talked about this years ago: rule-enforced spacing vs. shooting-encouraged spacing.

Of course. But...
Do the Bulls just only lose Pippen? Or could we replace him with another 90's top ten player?

Pippen was hurt and MJ still won 62 games & the chip in '98.

Pip was basically a prop during the Finals when his back gave out on him.

Only Pippen failed to reach Horry-level in the Finals over a meaningful sample size (0/6):
95' Horry...... 19.0 gamescore... 18/10/4/3/2 on 57 TS
92' Pippen.... 18.1 gamescore.... 21/8/7/2/1 on 56 TS
91' Pippen.... 17.5 gamescore.... 21/9/7/2/1 on 53 TS

I watched long enough to see a couple non-baller, Joe the Plumbers spout their misunderstandings of the game and the illegal defense rules..
People forget that Pippen averaged 5 assists as a mid-tier playmaker that mostly looked for MJ, whereas the Bulls needed additional scheming to contain a goat playmaker and offensive force like Stockton.. The Bulls were always facing multiple players that could produce elite offense, while opponents only had to worry about MJ.
In the 92' Finals, the Bulls had make sure Terry Porter didn't average 26/6/8 with 53% threes (6 attempts) like he did in the WCF (against Stockton).. So there's a level of competition among elite offensive performers that Pippen was never even on.. The only planning on defense was how to stop Michael..
Ultimately, every notable sidekick in the 90's was infact a 1b that led their team in many series - the only exception is Pippen (never a 1b), who also had the lowest peak of any sidekick (22/5).
Furthermore, it's standard to have SF's like Horry or Pippen guard a bummy big like Carr or Ostertag in some defensive setups - so the big point that the video makes is nothing - the only remarkable thing is how the Bulls would've been better off in all 6 Finals with Horry defending Carr instead of Pippen, who never reached Horry-level in the Finals (0/6) - see the stats in previous post.

The only reason the Bulls nearly lost the 98' ECF and Finals is because of Pippen:
98' ECF - 16.6 on 39%
98' Finals - 15.7 on 41% (quit in closeout games
Anytime a series was close or lost, it was Pippen's fault... See the other two 7-game series for further confirmation (90' ECF or 92' ECSF)

Believe it or not, at least they're still better than kobe's 15.6 ppg on 37% in the 2000 finals. True role player numbers. :oldlol:
Go figure.

Lol. You don't know a damn thing about winning basketball bro. They literally break down Scottie Pippens impact on that series.
The fact is Pippen did play center that Finals. Game 1-6. And he ran the offense. All this while having a bad back. People brag about Magic "playing" center in 80, but that was against Caldwell Jones. It's not like he was playing against Moses Malone. And it was 1 game.

Pippen wet the bed in the 98' Finals and nearly caused loss, just like the previous series (ECF)

The point is that Pippen was nearly always at that shitty level (15-20 on worst-ever efficiency) - that was Pippen's standard.. he's an Iggy-level player that is rated top 30 all-time (most overrated player ever)

No sir. Pippen spearheaded the Bulls defense. A defense that held the number rated offense in the Jazz to 54 points in Game 3. That's an average of 13.5 points over 4 quarters lol.

I find it hilarious that 3ball refers to these guys as Plumbers, but what has John Hollinger done athletically? He'll he had almost a decade running the Grizzlies and didn't do a damn thing. You'd think his stats would've been the difference maker.

Pippen's worst is the same as Kobe's - they're both at 15 on 35%
Except Pippen remained near that level and this performance was standard for him (never reached Horry-level), while Kobe became a historic rival of Jordan, Magic, and Bird

So you mean to say that pip's worst is fine for someone who's not known for his offensive capabilities while kobe is inferior akin to his similar peers? Got it.

Iggy > Pippen based on performance like FMVP or his performance against the Eastern champs (Dwight) was superior to Pippen's against 94' Ewing.. Heck, Iggy even won 57 games with the Nuggets one year

let that sink in...
No scheme or attention was required for Pippen - he wasn't on the scouting report like Shaq said

Russell and Anderson are good defenders, so you make no point
Shaq, Hakeem and Duncan couldn't beat the 97' or 98' Jazz - only MJ could
It's funny because the video shows the Bulls making adjustments on Stockton, while Pippen was guarded by Hornacek - that was the adjustment for Pippen
