He probably did it at least in part for playing time. With Kyrie out for home games and Simmons being another head case he can surely get more time with them.

He gets to be a starter/sixth man for a team that could play for the championship if it gets its head out of it's ass. If Irving gets his specific head out of his ass he will only be a sixth man but that's still potentially a great spot.

that's a good point , but at 35 and starting he will be targeted for his defense. Opponents will work him into pick and rolls all day every day.
If he played for the Bucks it would of been spot minutes , but his efficiency would of been sky high.

But he would have ended up starting for the Bucks, too. With probably more minutes, as there is no Kyrie in Milwaukee. And with an equal-to-better chance of playing for a championship.
