View Full Version : Will longevity strike again?

In my humble opinion, WILT "the Stilt" CHAMBERLAIN is hands down the greatest C of all-time!
Unlike Shaq, WILT was capable of playing D, rebounding, and blocking at will. He had more moves than SHAQ and his fadeaway shot was unstoppable.
Kareem is considered the unanimous best big man ever but he was a one-trick pony. Wilt was clearly the better rebounder, shot-blocker, and defender. Furthermore,
Kareem played in a weaker-era! However, Kareem's longevity led him to score more points than Wilt and amass more personal accolades. Yes, he won 4 more chips than Wilt but I don't think that's the main reason as to why he's considered better. I don't think it comes down to rings between these two. For instance, Russell won 11 rings and nobody considers him the best ANYTHING. Talent wise Kareem was inferior to Wilt, he only managed to win 4 more rings, but in my humble opinion it was his longevity that puts him over Wilt.
Kareem is pretty much out of the picture when it comes to the GOAT Debate. Nowadays, the race for the GOAT title is between JORDAN and LEBRON. So will longevity favor LeBron as much as it did Kareem?
Clearly LeBron is a limited scorer; nevertheless he will eventually overtake Kareem's scoring record, which is impressive. BUT will that be enough to surpass MJ? JORDAN has won more chips and more personal accolades. Moreover, MJ is considered the better player between the two.
LeBron might be more versatile but he was not a better 2-way player than MJ. LBJ was never the defender MJ was, not even close. Don't give me LBJ could defend all 5 positions, we all know that's a bunch of BS. Could LeBron guard Hakeem or Shaq for an entire game? NOPE! Could he guard a small and speedy PG for an entire game? Nope. Did he ever win DPOY? Nope!
how many NBA 1st defensive teams did he make? Exactly!
As far as overall talent goes MJ is the clear winner.
As far as championships and accolades MJ is the clear winner.
But when it comes down to longevity, LeBron takes this one. LONGEVITY will enable LeBron to remain in the GOAT talk after his retirement. However, I am not sure whether it will be enough for him to overtake MJ. Overall, longevity has/will enable LeBron to eventually overtake Kareem's scoring record and end top 5-7 in assists. But will longevity be enough this time around? Personally, I don't think so. Even if he plays until he is 45, getting beat by DIRK really did a number on him.
What say you?
Your thoughts...your thoughts???

Agree. Wilt is definitely better than Kareem.
And Jordan is definitely better than Lebron.
I don't think history will be as kind to Lebron when he retires as it was to Kareem though. 10 years from now, I doubt Lebron will be in any serious GOAT conversation. He'll be where Kobe is now.
Jordan wouldn't have gotten six rings if he didn't play in a joke era.

And Bronie wouldn't have won any rings if he didn't jump ship to teams where he knew he could be carried.

He played in an era dominated by Centers. Whereas, LeBron struggled against Dwight for crying out loud.
And Bronie wouldn't have won any rings if he didn't jump ship to teams where he knew he could be carried.
Yet it was a consensus that the 2016 ring was more valuable than any of his six rings.

And why is that exactly? the East was weak AF and he formed another super-team to his liking.

Nobody beat a 70+ win team before in the finals ever. Just saying.

Same team almost got beat in the west by two other teams!
Plus there's precedent/now that Curry is a big time bottler/choker! And let's not forget that Uncle Phucktard was also outstanding in that series.

If you say so. Which do you think is jordan's best opponent in the finals and how do they fare compared to the spurs or warriors dynasty?

Those 70 wins didn't translate well coming into the playoffs. They almost got eliminated by OKC
In comparison, 2001 Lakers barely won 60 games but they steamrolled into the playoffs like a juggernaut

Right. Eye tests say that they used to be plumbers, janitors, grocery baggers and car mechanics before they got into the league.

Take your pick: Barkley, Robinson, Malone/Stockton. If they'd gone against anyone other than Jordan and the Bulls, they'd be championship teams. The Warriors dynasty is only a dynasty because of Durant. And in 2016, Green was the glue that held that team together. If Green doesn't get suspended, Bronie doesn't get his precious ring.
Oh really? Cool story bro.
Great comeback, as always. :lol

Except they never did lmao. The warriors never needed kd to win over 70 games and were already champions without him. Also jordan faced david robinson and the spurs in the finals? Ah ok.

Excuses and alibis. They still won regardless.

You're clueless af. He said the 01 lakers barely won 60 games when they actually won 56 only that year, kiddo.

56 instead of 60 games, huh? Which you failed to point out as a counter-argument. You merely said, "cool story." You should try to up your game. That's a pro tip for you.

Curry and Klay vs. the 96 Bulls team? The Bulls would have handled that team in 5.
The 96 MAGIC were probably better than the Spunk Brothers and the Bulls swept them.

Lmao we're talking about how none of jordan's opponents come close to that of the spurs or warriors dynasties and suddenly you try to squeeze out of the subject by merely deflecting. :oldlol:

Fair enough. But the thing is, we are comparing those dynasties against jordan's opponents. Not his or the bulls dynasty itself.

No Jordan opponent was as good as the Warriors. Spurs are arguable. Especially the latter ones.
Same as how Lebron gets a pass on his weak ass competition out East.
It all balances out at the end. Anything else is biased.
So which of jordan's opponents out east won the title when the bulls didn't make the finals for two years between their two three-peats and after the second one? Then which team won the title in 2019 after kong fled to the western conference four years ago?

Fact is, you have no idea how the 64-win Jazz with Malone and Stockton would have fared against the 73-win Warriors. Neither do I. Both teams couldn't make it through the finals.
If that's the only argument you have for Jordan having weak competition, that his finals' opponent didn't have as good of a win-loss record, then your case is just lame.

Lol it doesn't necessarily have to be just the 73-win team. It could be the 2017 warriors that already had kd in the roster and even if i do honestly hate them historically, they might be the most freaking stacked of all time. That colluding move is even worse than what kong did 12 years ago but still the stockton/malone jazz are obviously no match for them. Just face the fact that kong had to face more adversity in the finals, a team that made the finals five times in a row.
