Why do you think he didn't get it?

Even Marc Gasol was surprised that he won the defensive player of the year in 2013.

he was clearly robbed in 2013. it doesn't matter though. he's a better peak defender than his goat competition anyway and only casuals and uneducated frauds think otherwise.

Then surely he won more DPOYs than his "goat competition."

By the way, how many DPOYs did Bronie ever win?

Jordan was 2nd in 93' while Pippen didn't place that year and had the lowest advanced stats ever in the playoffs for a winning sidekick (PER, BPM, VORP, WS/48)..

In addition to the bed-wetting in 93', Pippen averaged 17 on 41% for the entire 96-98' Playoffs, and was aids in the 99-03' Playoffs or 88-90'.. Basically his entire playoff career was bad except 91'.. Even 92' was stained with the X-Man debacle in Round 2

How often was he put on the opponent's best player tho?

He wasn't that good of a defender. Rafer Alston destroyed him as did Nate Robinson, Paul George

This. Great help defender but was never seen as this elite 2-way player who could get big stops 1 on 1. Pierce also lit his ass up in that Game 7 in '08.

The Heat maximized his ability as a help defender with him and Wade or Bosh trapping guards, it worked well because they had veteran 3&D guys like Battier & Allen around them.

Why do you think Lebron didn't win it? It's not like Gasol was more popular or that Lebron was disliked that much to not give it to him.

Hold up. Lebron only has 5 First All Defensive Team selections?

Kobe and Jordan both have 9

Same reason why Pippen failed to win a defensive player of the year in the 1990's. They always gave it to great defensive big men.

LeBron was a PF that year keep in mind. 91% of his games came at the 4 and 5.

By 2013, the defensive landscape wasn't the same. Guys like Duncan, Garnett, and Howard were over the hill and beyond their defensive primes. In 2009, you had Howard, but a lot of elite guys had missed significant time, which lessened their production defensively and in the eyes of voters:

KG '09: 59 starts
Artest '09: 59 starts
Battier '09: 59 starts

This isn't to say that LeBron wasn't great defensively in these years, he was. But the DPOY argument has a greater context I believe.

Always? Since Lebron's been in the league;

2003-04 Meta World Peace
2014-15 Kawhi Leonard
2015-16 Kawhi Leonard
2016-17 Draymond Green
