View Full Version : 37y/o LBJ had a dunk that a 24y/o Kobe did (then was seen as best dunk of the season)

Anyone remember the hype around this dunk a young, athletic Kobe did during a fast break:

It made all kinds of top 10 play countdowns, as being one of the best, if not the best dunks/plays of that season.
Meanwhile a 37 year old LeBron James in his 19th season just did this dunk in traffic and it is a mere foot note in terms of hype the day after:

Reminds me of the hype dunks like this from a FRIGGIN ALL-STAR game got back in the early 00s:

Meanwhile LeBron did this in a FINALS game and it barely gets mentioned:

Just shows how much the standards are higher these days. I mean, you would get laughed at for even attempting the dunk that won the 1994 (Isaiah Rider) and 1997 (Kobe) dunk contests in today's dunk contest. But back then they were the greatest thing since sliced bread:

Yes, the league has gotten significantly more skilled on the offensive side of the ball over time with the exception of low post scoring. Despite what any old heads want to say. I will say defenses were tougher back then, as teams have adopted 3 point shooting naturally and also the league has made it more difficult to guard perimeter players. Overall, the NBA has never been more skilled, however, despite the fact that defenses are worse and players are more soft than ever.
Nevertheless, Kobe's dunk was more impressive and it's not particularly close... and this coming from a Kobe "hater" back in the day and a LeBron "stan" according to the idiots that post on this board.
Like I said, you can troll better.
