View Full Version : What if Klay doesn't want to be the sidekick anymore?

What if Klay Thompson wants to be the alpha and wants to take Steph's place as the leader of the Warriors and demands more touches?

Or what if he ends up being more efficient and productive and he ends up naturally taking that spot from Curry? (this isn't likely with his injury but let's say this happens)

Will Curry be ok with this or will this break up the team?

Klay has been pretty inefficient tbh. He’s producing at his usual level besides the efficiency problems but his TS% is poor which is obviously not normal for him. I imagine he’ll get in a rhythm soon enough. If not definitely next year. Curry would have to fall off even more than he already has for any version of Klay to be a better first option than him though. Steph apparently declining in the middle of a season has been bizarre but he’s still elite.

It's pretty clear by now that Curry is an unselfish player.....its literally how he went 3-1 against LeBarry in the finals..including 8-1 last 2 series.

Klay can try be the man all he wants, but Curry demands respect from defenders either way...so if Klay is actually up to it, it'll naturally leave Curry open to dominate.

Warriors are a team...theyre bigger than 1 guy....and props to them for that....its how they've been so successful.

No team killing idiot high jacking the GM office, holding the ball too much and taking all the credit.

So long story short....this is stupid

I really don't get that vibe from Klay, this Warriors core seems extremely unselfish. I think more than anything he's just grateful to be playing basketball again after that incredibly long layoff. Even with Curry in his season long shooting slump, Klay simply doesn't compare to him as an offensive weapon, and I'm sure even Klay is well aware of that.

While I do think in general having Klay as your teams first option/best offensive player, even pre injury, wouldn't be a recipe for success, I feel what he did in the 2016 playoffs when Curry went down is really underrated. The Warriors went 5-2 in that stretch, with all 5 of their wins coming by 9 points or more, and one of the losses coming by just 1 point, with Klay averaging a very first option worthy 29 ppg on 62%TS during that stretch.

Lol.

Klay is nowhere near his pre-injury self right now.

Klay Thompson is in no position to be making demands as a first option. And I very much doubt that 2016 version of Klay is ever coming back.

He will find his game soon, though, and cut out some of those bad shots from his arsenal. Kerr will have to sit him longer and play Poole in his stead more often until that happens.

It depends on where he goes and what he does...if he joins Cavs/Bulls/Heat/Suns and wins two titles than the guy jumps into legacy conversations. If he joins up with another MVP and flops horrible he misses out on the Top 100 and might not make first ballot HOF. It's better for him to go for six with the warriors and try and get to 25K points.

What significant things is he gonna do for one of those teams if he's not his former self anymore?
