View Full Version : Best 1 on 1 player in NBA history?

Now granted, I don't think anyone in NBA history would win 100% of 1 on 1 matchups with every iteration of every other player ever in NBA history, but who would win the most?

My top 3 without putting thought into it are Durant, Garnett, and Olajuwon. These three guys can just about defend and just about score on anyone. Most NBA players can't do that.

I know I'll catch shit for Olajuwon and Garnett but I don't care.

What say you?

If kobe is not your number 1 youre retarded straight the fvck up. He is by far the best overall 1on 1 player that has ever played this game. That doesnt mean he couldnt be beat one on one but overall, talent and skill it was kobe and it isnt even close. Yep better than jordan too

Probably James Harden honestly. Unless it’s make it take it then I’m going with shaq or someone like that.

Thing is we will never know but if it was some big all time tourney watch it be someone weird like Giannis or penny or someone like that who would win it all :oldlol:

You mean the guy who can't blow by his defender consistently without a screen?

Obviously Jordan, Iverson, Kobe, McGrady, Pierce, Wade, KD, Harden, Kyrie and maybe even Melo take the cake as the best ISO scorers I’ve ever seen. Also might add Jamal Crawford in that list as well. Derozan and Booker going to be in that class too.

You've got to be joking.

Durant would cook every single one of these mother****ers 1 on 1.

KD could at least be serviceable defensively. None of them could guard him except maybe McGrady but he'd get cooked too.

KD would have a bad day playing one one one with Orlando Magic Shaq.

Those jumpers gonna fall short once he feels his sore ribcage.

Garnett wouldn't make my top 20. He couldn't keep guards in front of him and couldn't back them down either. He would just shoot midrange jumpers.

A lot of his defensive value in his career was as a help defender. Take that away and he loses a lot of his value.

Barkley would straight up destroy him 1 on 1.

I don't like the thread premise anyway. I think a better thread is who are the best 1 on 1 players in actual games.

The rules would determine this. Do players get the ball back after scoring? What about free throws?

The eye test tells me John Rogers is the best 1 on 1 player in basketball history. Shame he chose the financial industry over a career in basketball.

Tbh all we have is speculations regardless of the rules. Those players mentioned before could all win it in my book.

But at least we have a good idea who would fare better in general.

It's been too many players in NBA history to have 1 best.

You can make an argument for Shaquille O'neal. Prime Carmelo Anthony had one of the best mid-range games in NBA history.

1.Durant 2.Mcgrady

Thats what I said. :lol

Wilt would beat him as Wilt could match or neutralize Shaq's strength and then Wilt's skill would be too much for Shaq.

Also, You can tell that Wilt was incredibly jealous of the offence that someone like Shaq could use in the 90s.

As the rules Wilt played under forced him to play as a mostly finesse based player (despite having the physicality to steamroll anyone he ever played against had he wanted/been permitted to like Shaq was allowed to do)

What about Kareem? I saw a 1 on 1 of Kareem vs Dr J. and Kareem humbled Dr. J. Kareem's length was a big problem and he could hit the skyhook from 15 feet out.

The problem with this was Dr. J was a non-shooter. Kareem could lockdown the paint and just use his size to bother drives.

I agree...I think Jordan beats Wilt in post 90's NBA but Wilt beats Jordan in pre-90's NBA

Pre-90
1. Wilt
2. Lebron
3. Bird
4. Olajuwon
5. Shaq

Post-90
1. MJ
2. Kobe
3. West
4. Lebron
5. Durant

I like Jordan man. Hes the superior player.

But KD is 7 foot tall, long and as fast and skilled as a guard. That's a deadly combo.

The way KD loses is to a power player like Shaq.

I'm not sure how anyone stops 2009-2010 LeBron from blowing by them one on one.

And he can defend well enough to get stops, and can also take the J.

You dare him to shoot. He misses tall guys easily take the rebounds in a 1v1. In a make it take it scenario he'd lose against guys like Olajuwon, Shaq etc.

Lebron is tough offensively. But really, what's he going to do with Wilt or Shaq backing him down and just dunking on him every possession. A game to 10 might be close, but Lebron would get tired if we're going to 20 or 50. Now, if the centers are allowed to rebound and keep shooting, forget it.

These Lebron stains bias is unbelievable. It goes beyond logic. Lots of them accuse me of being biased to Jordan, but even I don't have him winning this one. Lebron could barely keep up with the offensively challenged Dwight Howard. What do you think would happen to him guarding Shaq, Wilt, Kareem and Olajuwon?

That's the main reason why they have zero cred.

lol he has a better chance of stripping them or they settle for a jump hook and miss when fatigue sets in than they do of staying in front of him. that's why lebron is the correct answer. no one is stopping him 1v1. you either get bulled or dunked on.

LeBron beat KD 1v1 multiple times according to Kevin Love and it was clearly very much in his favor as well, so obviously he would be a formidable opponent in that setting. However, LeBron also lost to Michael Beasley 1v1, so we already know he's not unbeatable in this. Michael Beasley would probably wax a lot of people 1v1 though, he obviously should have been much better than he was.

There's literally only 1 player in history that could consistently shred his defender within a second or 2 of catching the ball, i.e. that's just how they played (quick iso goat)
