Per the Pistons, Cade Cunningham finished with 28 points, six rebounds and 10 assists tonight vs. the Hawks, and is the second Pistons rookie (Isiah Thomas) in the last 50 years to have a game with at least 25/5/10.

He's also weak defensively and takes a lot of bad shots. Been way better recently but Mobley is already one of the better all-around defenders that I've seen this year.

If Mobley has a healthy career he has the potential to be a top 10 player

I've seen plenty. He's an exciting rookie...

I literally just watched a full game 3 nights ago. I've been following him, Mobley, Franz, and Barnes all year.

He frequently got lost on defense and he was taking deep pull-ups and overall tough shots that were just ill-advised. I'm not going to take that away from him really because he's 20 and I think he's going to be an awesome player going forward. But Mobley is already a guy that you could plug into a championship team IMO.

When the worst thing a rookie scoring guard has said about him is that he's weak defensively, he's doing just fine. And in this case, better than fine.

I'm not even going to go into what things might look like 3-5 year from now because Cade could be that dude. But this is how I view how they are right this second: Cade is on a really bad team and has complete autonomy to play the game almost exactly how he wants and in a way that is ideal for his skillset as it stands right now. There's growing pains but he gets to control the pace, take pretty much whatever shot he wants, make whatever pass he wants, etc. And it looks great because he's maximizing himself. But if you were to ask any contending team right now if they would take him, not even in a trade but just plug him into their team right now with no strings, I doubt a lot of them would jump on that. And if they did he wouldn't be playing like he does now and would obviously have his minutes reduced significantly.

Mobley hasn't been as spectacular offensively as Cade has shown in spurts but I don't think there's a contending team that wouldn't take him right now. He'd likely start on a lot of them.

That's why he's ROY to me. Once the Pistons get more pieces and Cade continues to get better? Might be a different story.

True. Cunningham is living up to the hype so far.

literally nobody thinks that is Cade's weakness tho. he is weak on TOs, shooting efficiency, and getting to the line. his defense is not a problem at all.

lol the Hawks game where he guarded Trae a bunch and harassed him into 5-20 w 5 turnovers? and dropped 28 on 10-25, three of which were last second heaves? and was +11 after taking over in OT? let's see the film of these "bad shots" and "frequent" occasions getting lost on defense.

this is an exceedingly dumb take for so many reasons.

Such as? Don’t just get your head scrambled and say “durrr so dumb”. Articulate please. I’m interested in your take.

And “just watch” is not a take. We all watch.

suuuuuuper dumb. any team takes him no strings attached and finds a role for him.

lol no shit - rookie gets less minutes and touches on a contender. holy **** get this guy a cookie and alert the high school newspaper.

and to your overall, general point - yeah, Mobley is an easier plug and play because he is a player that will primarily contribute off ball. but you are 100% not going to run an offense thru him his rookie year. a better hypothetical is to put Mobley on the Pistons instead of Cade. that might seriously be the worst team of all time, and i have a pretty good feeling Mobley's lauded efficiency would eat shit.

on cue Cade looks like the best player on the floor tonight in a game featuring Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown

Bro..the entire point of what I said was that Mobley wouldn’t get less minutes on a contender.

That’s why I stressed that down the line Cade might be that dude who can be a true #1 on a great team. But that’s not right now and on my team for the next 2 months I’m taking Mobley.

It’s like rookie Kobe vs rookie Duncan. Obviously that’s an extreme but Mobley is more ready at this moment.

which contender? are current championship contenders heavy in the front or back court? silly blanket statement. congratulations to Mobley for "best fit for current contenders over the next two months" award, i suppose.

Any contender. I just went through the 1-10 in both conferences and I think Mobley would start for 14-16 of them.

But the whole “good on your for being more playable the next 2 months” thing...doesn’t that apply to ROY?

more playable or a better fit/more mins available? read the first question of the post you quoted. the answer is "no," that doesn't mean a player is ROY.
