Out of all the Lakers games I've seen this year, one of the things that have stood out to me is how atrocious Carmelo's defense is at this point. He gets beat off the dribble every single time, no lateral quickness whatsoever. I honestly can't remember the last time I've seen such a bad defender.

And plenty of those are nba players too. Some have fairly extended careers. John Lucas the third is one of the 10 or so worst defenders I ever saw, only had like 3 20 point games in his career all of which were in maybe a months time on the Bulls, and was in the nba for like 6 years.

Melo is fine as a bench scorer. He is doing what he is supposed to do but when you are playing him 27 minutes a game that is a problem.

Jamal Crawford played that role for years. Come in off the bench, score some points and play no D at all. I used to live in Atl and follow the Hawks. When he was there i don't think i ever saw him actually make an effort to get a loose ball. It was comical. If the ball didnt come straight to him he wasn't going to touch it.
