I couldn’t find a topic on it and it’s about time for me to toss some chum into the ISH waters to generate some discussion so…..

There are some who say that entire disrespectful line of thinking stems from this moment:

But who can say. He got Kobe a couple times too.

White liberal ghetto kid who always was a big Lebron James supporter.

Not even top 5 Laker, that's cute.

Jason Williams is a god damn idiot his opinion means little to nothing. He’s still prolly still mad and salty about all those years the Lakers were beating the Kings over and over again in the playoffs in the early 2000’s.

Kobe isn't one of the 5 best players to ever dawn a Lakers jersey.

But his career as a Lakers player specifically is probably unmatched.

LeBron, Shaq, Wilt, Kareem, Magic... so tell me... who is Kobe better than out of those guys? None. That's the answer. But 20 years with one franchise goes a long way...

Really depends on how you want to look at it.

Because clearly none of them other than maybe Magic had as good of cumulative years while playing for the Lakers as Kobe did.

Arguably better total careers than Bryant: Wilt, Shaq, Magic, Kareem, James, West. But if we only include their time as a Laker That list shrinks to Magic, Kareem, and West and that's with the word "arguable." None of them had inarguably better Laker careers and Magic is the only one I would say was definitely ahead.

I think Kobe and Magic are 1A and 1B there’s not a huge difference between the two having the title as being the greatest Laker ever.

Well there are a lot more MVP awards on Magic's side but Bryant was a better defender.

You can't honestly be so bothered by his opinion that you're throwing a fit and insulting a guy you don't know anything about.

Take a step back and realize how ****ing embarrassing you are.

Top ten all time lists can swing anyway after the top three: MJ, Lebron, Kareem.

I like to include Wilt 4th...but 5-10? Kobe could be anywhere.

Kobe was pretty smart.

So I'm not sure foreheads are the best indicator for these things.

Kobe is most certainly a top 5 all time Laker.

Unless J-Will is viewing it as players that played for the Lakers... But, top 5, or top of a certain team means what you accomplished with that team.

Otherwise you have Wilt, KAJ, Shaq, Bron and Magic, so I get his point there.

You can blame Eagle, Colorado for that Kobe should've won MVP's in 06 and 07. I understand the league not wanting Kobe to be the face of the league during that time frame with everything that was going on with Kobe involving controversy Kobe was always hated when comes to the national media. The league never promoted him like MJ or Lebron.

Kobe is one of the greatest Lakers of all-time but on an all-time list, he is the sixth Laker on the list

2. Wilt Chamberlain (Laker)
3. Lebron James (Laker)
5. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Laker)
7. Magic Johnson (Laker)
8. George Mikan (Laker)

Does Wilt deserve to be ahead of Kobe as a Laker? He played 4 seasons with LA, averaging 17 PPG. He won no MVPs during that time, was All-NBA once, and All-Defensive 2/4 years, and won 1 title.

I wouldn't put him above Kobe given the body of work that Kobe had for such a long time, all being with LA.

Maybe he means not top 5 all time best Lakers, in which case it's much more reasonable. I'd say almost all the great Lakers are better than Kobe.

Greatness includes the time you spent with the organization so Kobe's definitely top 5 in this area. Might even be #1.

If he means peaks then hes right west, magic, wilt, Kareem, shaq LeBron all have a case.

If he means lakers career then no. Kobe has the best lakers career other then maybe magic johnson

"I wasn’t talking about the greatest LAKER ever… because of course that’s Kobe!!! Kobe IS the Lakers!!! 💛💜 But in what I was saying, I was thinking about WILT, KAREEM, MAGIC, SHAQ, LEBRON… (That’s my top 5 players who ever played in a Laker jersey *in no particular order* in case y’all wondering!)… those players who—in my opinion—were/are better than KOBE!! That's just my opinion! Doesn't mean I’m saying it’s a fact!!"

I think Kobe makes the top 5 for best Lakers to ever play for that franchise the only players you can say for sure that are above Kobe are Kareem, Magic, and Lebron outside of that it’s debatable.

Yeah that's the point, Wilt and Lebron are better players than Kobe but Kobe is a better Laker.

People putting Shaq in the top five is a little iffy to me as well....

Kobe, West, Mikan, KAJ, Magic

I'd take 25-27 year old Kobe over current version LeBron or later in his career Laker Wilt if I'm being honest. Those guys don't have higher peaks as a Laker, Kobe would win a title with AD as well, maybe more than one at that.

That's putting aside even the whole "Kobe's entire Laker career" thing.

26 year old Kobe would average 34-35 ppg in this era of weaker defence on a higher shooting percentage.

No one cares about best to ever wear the jersey. It's meaningless. Shaq was the 2nd greatest player to ever wear a Cavs jersey, but he's nowhere on the list of all-time great Cavs. All that matters is what you did while playing for the team in question.

I think the rationale is that JWill means in the sense of greatest players who have been Lakers. Otherwise it makes no sense. Imo, Kobe's would be top 5 either way.

Easily a Top 5 Laker. With that franchise, I believe only Magic & Kareem have an argument.
