View Full Version : Where will Giannis finish all time among the greatest players?

He's won 2 MVPs, 1 defensive player of the year, 1 Finals MVP, 1 title, and several All-NBA teams. Currently, this season he's competing for his 3rd MVP, 1st scoring title, 2nd DFPOY and 2nd championship. Some people have him in their top 30 already, others have him in their top 20 already. I think he can definitely be among the 10 greatest players of all time once his career is over. There are so few players who have ever had the two way dominance that he has.

He's certainly on a projection to be. If he stays healthy, has good longevity, wins another chip or two, he'll get serious consideration for top 10. It would take injury at this point to prevent him from ending up at minimum top 20.
But according to 3ball, before giannis went to the finals almost a year ago he told us that he's just a pippen-caliber type of player who had no chances of finishing as top 10 at all. :ohwell:

Not many guys have been elite at scoring, rebounding and defense. He has been a beast for years and is only 27. So yeah history will be kind to him.

Top 20-30s.
He's somewhere around guys like Dwayne Wade, David Robinson, Clyde Drexler etc.
I suppose he can surprise and maybe get to like top 15-20, but unlikely.

It's impossible for him to crack the top twenty, he going to need two more rings to even consider him. A number of people trash Lebron for his bubble win but Giannis's ring really was based on a number of injuries and the short season.
Generational
1. Lebron
2. Curry
3. CPIII
4. Durant
5. Kwahi
6. Giannis
7. Harden
8. Carmello
9. Thompson
10. Embiid
Position wise
Power Forward
1. James
2. Duncan
3. Nowitzki
4. Pettit
5. KG
6. Barkley
7. Malone
8. Giannis
9. McHale
10. Schayes
For me the best he can do (because I value all generations equally) is 26-30 range and getting ahead of Durant and Leonard.

He's 27 and he's already in his 9th year and has won multiple MVPs and a championship, the conversation is valid at this time.

His growth has been impressive even if he is a freak of nature. Dude was trash his first two years in the NBA.
I still need to see more playoff success from him, but he for sure has a chance a top 10 if he keeps things up.

This.
It's not about the number of titles, but he's been inconsistent and in many cases disappointing in the playoffs. It's amazing to me how people just seem to have completely forgotten this because of one great finals series.

It's hard to say at this point, because if he stays healthy, he'll have a lot of years left.
Probably somewhere between top 15 and GOAT.

Well I'd say he's the first PF to come along that has a LEGIT SHOT at challenging Duncan for the GOAT PF crown. And he doesn't have to win as many rings as Duncan for to happen. His peak-prime value, solo accolades, a couple more rings, and numbers could be enough to get him past Timmy. If that were to happen, that puts him in that top 10-12 GOAT range. Plus we gotta account for the fact that KD and Steph ARE LOOKING LIKE they will knock a couple cats outta the top 10 GOAT.

Has any top 10 player ever been owned as bad as Giannis did by kawhi in 2019? Especially after winning MVP

Yes. Lebron in 2011. If you consider him top 10 that is.

top 10 is definitely possible. I really like KG but I just see Giannis ending up with a better career than him and any other PF besides duncan

dirk wasn't guarding lebron like kawhi was guarding giannis though. Lebron also didn't win MVP that season.

I agree. KG was the GODFATHER of the positionless 7 foot two way player. But Giannis' evolution becoming a dominant scorer has BETTER than KG was back in the day. And from there, his career resume is ALREADY looking like it will pass KG by. He already has a ring and DPOY like KG had. PLUS Giannis is a two time MVP to KG's one MVP. So solo accolades wise, he's well on his way. Might be a bit premature, but I think it's A LOCK he will be the #2 GOAT PF. He doesn't even need to win another ring or MVP for that distinction. Just needs to stay healthy.
But to pass Duncan, he will need to win another ring or two. He DOESN'T need more rings than Duncan to pass him. Because his solo accolades, numbers, and peak prime value will be just as good or better. Giannis CURRENT PLAY at the PF spot over the past three years IS BETTER than any PF ever in my opinion. He' THE BEST PF I've ever seen play since I've been watching. NOT the most skilled. OR the GOAT cause the GOAT PF Duncan. But NO PF has played better than Giannis of the past three seasons!
