WW1: 1,811,000 to 2,254,369 dead soldiers (more than any other country)
WW2: 8,700,000 dead soldiers (By far the most)
So far in Ukraine: 7,000 (U.S. lost 7,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq from 2001-2018)

Ukraine is reporting 14,000 Russian soldiers killed.

Hard to know if that is truthful or accurate.
I am reading many report that Ukraine is actually winning this war. If that is real it is scary because I think Putin would rather resort to nukes than accept defeat. And if Putin hits that red button it will be a scary moment for the entire globe because it will be followed by Russia being erased off the map.

No one should be mentioning/suggesting nuclear weapons as an option at this day and age. It is downright reckless and irresponsible. Nuclear war is a lose-lose situation for everyone.

that's what the Ukrainians are reporting, right? i doubt that it's actually that many. if you want a rough estimate i'd say take thr numbers both the ukrainians and russians are reporting and split it in two.

Russia has always been in the thick of things. They have pretty much been a punching bag due to the area of the territory they control, and they also have a history of going on the offensive far into enemy territory. Tsars, Lenin, Stalin these guys during ww1/ww2 didn't care about their soldiers any more than they cared about their goals - soldiers were just pawns.
They, especially Stalin, were big on revenge. That's how the death numbers became so inflated because they would just push & push. During ww2, Stalin also had officers/machine gun nests set to kill any of their own soldiers if they retreated. Lots of his own soldiers died at the hands of their own. Then there was also the push for Berlin. Russians would just push in groups, often using ww1 tactics with bayonets into heavy enemy fire, and lose big number of their own to gain ground. And then refuse to retreat when they controlled the land even if outnumbered/outgunned. They also fought in brutal chilly Russian conditions, which also led to a lot of deaths.
Very different tactics are used these days and there is such a thing as a strategic retreat. Russians seem to see that as cowardice rather than living to fight another day. You don't always need to apply brute force when you can use finesse and brains to reach the same goal.

Republicans would then praise Putin's strength and leadership.

OP, You can't really compare the US with anyone. The US is just too OP for anyone when fighting a war. If the US is Michael Jordan, Russia would be Luke Kennard. That's really how much difference.
Losing 7000 soldiers might be quite normal for other countries for this scale of invasion.
