View Full Version : It isn't like MJ couldn't dominate ball and get 10 apg (and he did sometimes), but..

why would you want him to?

Anyone and their grandma can play the ball-dominant style of high apg - Westbrook, Luka, Harden, Lebron, CP3, Nash Stockton and many more - anyone can play that way and it requires more help to win.

No viable coach would play a way that requires more help if they had a player with elite jumpshooting skill (including off-screens) that can carry scoring loads (defeat maximum defensive attention), aka Kobe, Kawhi, Bird, MJ.

All these guys needed less help because they could defeat maximum defensive attention (carry scoring load in playoffs and Finals of title run) and come off-screens to elevate teammate role (put the ball in teammate hands and then be the bailout option if needed)..

MJ couldn't handle the nba grind with one role on offense....shoot. He wouldn't have lasted 10 years as a teams primary scoring option and facilitator.

Associated Press said he was best PG in league after his first 10 games at the position in 89'.. of his career - he'd never played PG before but was a 30/10/10 guy in his first try

But again, why would you want to play that way (requires more help) if you have a superior skillset that allows you to carry scoring loads while elevating teammates (off-ball), thereby needing less help

Yes, because publications have never sensationalized in order to garner interest.

If anyone thinks a 10x Scoring Champion shooting less while Bill Wennington, Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright, John Paxson, B.J. Armstrong, Stacy King, Scott Williams, Scottie Pippen all shooting more is a good thing, they might be an idiot.

They are proven idiots, by now

OP is here criticising a bunch of players who 'ball-dominanted' their way to high assist numbers. In a different thread, he's complimenting some of these same ball-dominators for averaging higher assists than Pippen, who himself was neither a ball dominant player or spent his prime in a system where any one player could ball-dominate their way to high assists.

This is honestly the epitome of 3ball. He literally uses completely contradicting arguments depending on whatever Jordan dick sucking agenda he's trying to push at the moment. You just perfectly exposed him doing it again.

When trying to denigrate LeBron: High assists=ball dominance & poor strategy

When trying to denigrate Pippen: He only averaged 5 apg (a lie btw) and wasn't capable of averaging 10 apg like other elite sidekicks from his era

So averaging 10 apg is both a terrible strategy any bum can do AND the criteria to determine which player is better :lol

What's hilarious is he'll often have these contradictory arguments running concurrently.

Op is absolutely right, Mj could dominate the ball and he did. We know it as the 1-9 special.
