View Full Version : Went to try a pizza joint this morning, but was rather puzzled.

Hey Yo

Had to go out of town early this morning about 45mins away. After done, I remembered a NY style pizza joint was in that area that I've always wanted to try. Had to be back in town by 11am.

Shop says they open at 10am. I was there about 950am and waited till they opened. I went in and saw no pizza. I asked about slices and she (plus another dude) said "we just opened, won't have any slices for a half hour.

WTF?? You're fvcking open?? Why open if there's no product readily available?? Makes ZERO sense and quite dumb.

Reminds me of yesterday.

Couple colleagues/mates and I wanted to get some food late.

So there was this "American Dining Salon" or something in the area.

It was 9:30 and they would close at 11.

We went in there at 9:35, they said they had already closed the kitchen.

WTF?

No people there, but, if you're a ****ing restaurant, stay true to your closing times.

I said maybe update your times then, she said well it depends on if people are there...

you're a public restaurant, don't just close sooner. Lmao.

You never go to a restaurant before 30 minutes after open and after 30 min before close. This basic common sense you idiots.

How does that dumb logic apply to me trying to get a slice of pizza once they first open?

I have never had a scenario where I go to a restaurant when it opens and the food is not supposed to be ready until later. They're supposed to start working on the food way before they open up, that's beyond amateur hour. Agree on 1 staring that shit. :pimp:

They have to... cook the pizza.

you were subliminally mind f*cked about getting a slice of pizza compared to other choices ends up requiring more time to burn off due to the high fat content

Why? Because 1% or less of restaurants have no food after opening?

Are you retarded my man?

you realize you're supposed to have it cooked when it opens, right?

When you own a restaurant, opening doesn't mean showing up at the store to start working :lol

you could really go either way on this. most restaurants and bakeries have bakers and cooks there up to a few hours before the doors open in order to prep the goods. a hole in the wall pizza place though? not so sure how much leeway you have to complain about no slices before being labeled a karen.

...i get your disappointment though, considering you planned the visit ahead of time.

Yup Karen hour up in here.

Also who wants a slice of pizza that’s been sitting under a heat lamp or a cold one that’s reheated? That’s garbage. Idiots.

The reheated pizza gets crispier and is still pretty good if it’s not too old

It seems kinda ridiculous to open a pizza place at 10 am when the vast majority of people would still be getting breakfast at that time. I understand the issue that they had no food available when they're open, that's a valid complaint, but I'm just going to give them some benefit of the doubt and assume that virtually nobody comes in there before 12 pm, esp not the instant they open.

Local Pizzarias open at usually 11:30. There s not many places you can go for pizza at 10 am.

A lot of independent restaurants fail. In fact, I can't remember the percentage, but it's quite high and definitely above half of them. Most people that start them don't have a clue just how hard it is to run a successful one.

Why the hell not just open at 10:30 in that case? I've worked at restaurants and the workers come in before it opens to y'know... prep for opening so everything is ready.

That what I said to myself once I got back into the car.

Plus, I don't expect there to be like 5 different styles available right at opening. At least have just plain cheese slices as an option... something is better than nothing.

Then you open at 12. It's not the customer's business to give 2 shits when others come in. If you have a time for it, you better be ready for business.

That's what my business teacher in school said. It's the business for failure, so many people open them and shut them down within 12-24 months.

I don't think there's a wrong side to this. The customer assumes he can eat when it opens, the restaurant says what the hell, we just opened. Give us a little bit to make the food. At the same time, they have to get there earlier than opening and have some food ready.

I used to be a manager at a warehouse and I can tell you I got there early to have things set up to be done that day. I remember instead of getting there 30 mins early, I got there 20 mins early and the higher ups got tight as hell. They didn't want to hear that things were ready to go by the time employees started arriving at 9.

Anyways, NY style. I'm assuming it wasn't in NYC?

Why the fvck would a pizza place have individual slices ready at 10am? Unless this place is insanely popular, those 10am slices would wind up sitting under a heatlamp for 2-3 hours before any significant amount of customers arrive.

Most restaurants close their kitchen 1h before they close the restaurant and it's usually shown at the door or the menue. You think you can enter at 10:59, order and eat there until 0:00 when the place closes at 11?

My question is whether this is typical business practice for the pizza place, or if something unusual happened on that particular day. I agree that if you never have pizza ready to sell before 10:30, then you don't open the doors to customers until 10:30. All opening at 10 is going to accomplish is pissing customers off and exposing your employees to abuse. And you know some jackass is going to DEMAND to speak to the manager and DEMAND to be giving a a free pizza because his precious time was wasted.

But it might have been just a one-time thing. The person who was supposed to get there at 9 to open so that there would be pizza available at 10 couldn't get their car started, so someone else had to scramble to get there to open and they only arrived a few minutes before 10. That's especially understandable if it's a small business with just a few employees.
