As a longtime advocate for society wide adoption of the “goon rules” you can probably guess which way I lean on that one.

Mostly how obvious it was he intended to do it. The ones like the Lebron bs one that was accidental….AI had a full court one that was total coincidence. Those I don’t really like. That one or the ones Manu mastered?

That shit I like.

Every time I watch Elgin Baylor I see some shit I do like. He’s so unusual moves wise. You can tell he had nobody before him to emulate so it’s all so random:

Like would you call that a floater or a jumper?

He was like the Joker claimed he was on dark knight. No plan. Just does things:

He's fun to play with in 2k. So many different weird ways to score.

Okay well on the subject of things I don't like...

Pelicans calling a timeout, down 4 with 0.1 on the clock

Dont know. Like is this a euro step?

His whole style is just so odd because he had to make it up on the fly. He was throwing off the dribble lobs to wilt you don’t really see regularly till for long after he was done. He’s like the base model spectacular wing and nobody has anything to say about him except how many times he lost vs better teams.

I remember somebody on the Raptors playing D in such a situation saying “Just don’t ****ing move and we can’t lose” after the timeout after the coach explained the plan. May have been Vanvleet. Made it a lot clearer than whatever that timeout was covering.

On a similar subject…something else I didn’t like. Someone with Manus basketball IQ allowing a 3 point play up 3 with seconds left in a game 7 vs the mavs. Dirk drove…**** it. Let him dunk then go take free throws. He tries to block it and gives him the 3 point play that may have cost the Spurs a ring. Top 10 all time dumbest play. Definitely some shit I didn’t like.

Youre up 3! Game 7! 20 seconds! Let him lay it in!

there's no opportunity to do a 1-legged takeoff or gather-step there because the paint isn't empty like today's game.

the lack of spacing and packed paints meant that contested shots were the expectation, so everyone had to develop their own unique way of making contested shots - hence the individually-unique games of prior era players like Magic, Bird, Kareem, Wilkes, McAdoo, etc... this contrasts with today's more robotic gather-steppers (threes and layup shot allocation - only the easiest shots that maximize efg)

Nice find

Most defenders would've given up on the play and had bad body language, but not MJ.. Spectacular no-give-up attitude by the young GOAT..

The goat leader for sure, which is why he beat the #1 SRS team with nothing in 89', and then never lost once he got a modicum of help - the only guy that never lost with a 1 or 2 seed or with an all-star teammate (except the baseball year and migraine year)

Quick players with insane pull back crossovers and stop and go moves? Watching? That shit I like. Playing them? That shit I don’t like. 30 years later I’m still mad my cousin hit me with a Wade like snatch back crossover on a full sprint that made me do a near split. I swear my shoes were hot. You could see burning rubber. To this day I’m secretly salty when I see guys get sent on voyages on a crossover or a quick stop like:

It’s like I get Nam flashbacks.

Wade did it to me a lot:

https://thumbs.gfycat.com/AmusingMelodicHummingbird-size_restricted.gif

Most viciously on Raja Bell who I will never stop bringing up because he made him fall the length of 3 manute bols on a crossover nobody even acknowledged.

Raja slid into the basket support on a crossover from the top of the 3 point line. He landed 28 feet from the crossover….

And now we have Ja Morant out here sending people to other dimensions without a trigger warning for people like me with ankle related trauma:
