He put up some fantastic scoring numbers, but it did appear that he benefitted tremendously from Steven Nash's play. He was able to get some MVP hype for a few months in New York, but there was a notable decline in efficiency without Nash.
We even have some games played with Nash out injured during his peak seasons.
In '04-'05, Amar'e played 7 games without Nash.
He put up: 22.4 PPG // 7.4 RPG // 1.4 APG // 1.9 SPG // 1.6 BPG // 3.3 TOPG on 48.7% FG and 56.33% TS
The team went 2-5.
In '06-'07, Amar'e played 6 games without Nash.
He put up: 25.2 PPG // 11.2 RPG // 1.5 APG // 0.5 SPG // 0.8 BPG // 4.0 TOPG on 50.5% FG and 57.43% TS
The team went 2-4.
In '07-'08, Amar'e played 1 game without Nash.
He put up: 21 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, 1 turnover, shooting 47.4% FG and 50.58% TS
The team went 0-1.
In '08-'09, Amar'e played 5 games without Nash.
He put up: 17.4 PPG // 5.0 RPG // 0.8 APG // 0.8 SPG // 1.2 BPG // 3.6 TOPG on 49.3% FG and 55.15% TS
The team went 2-3.
In '09-'10, Amar'e played 1 game without Nash.
He put up: 30 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, 2 turnovers on 60.0% FG and 60.39% TS
The team went 1-0.
That's a total of 20 games, amounting to a statline of:
- 22.3 PPG // 8.4 RPG // 1.3 APG // 1.1 SPG // 1.2 BPG // 3.4 TOPG on 50% FG and 56.35% TS
W/L of 7-13.
That's still a solid stat line, but the efficiency is notably decreased.
With Nash in 359 games over that period of time, this is what he put up:
- 23.3 PPG // 9.0 RPG // 1.4 APG // 0.8 SPG // 1.5 BPG // 2.5 TOPG on 56.8% FG and 63.02% TS
A drop in efficiency that lines up with his first year in New York.
