They were finally going to be back home in front of their own crowd where they had incentive to actually play everyone so they could make sure to break the franchise win record for the fans, and on top of that it was perfect timing they just happened to play the Lakers... so in that same game as breaking the franchise record they also got to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and send the Lakers to cancun which was extra satisfying after all the comments AD made recently showing he's still butthurt over last season's playoffs. :lol

Maybe Bran should have played so the Lakers had a decent chance to win against the best team in the league? Suns wanted their franchise record and there's obviously some beef between Lakers & Suns, so of course they made sure to bury the Lakers to eliminate them from the POs.

And I don't think the Suns would have been scared to play the Lakers in the 1st round regardless, they should be worried about the Clippers. Suns could end up losing in the 1st round if Clippers finish 8th and get Kawhi back. I'd give the Clippers a decent chance to go 6/7 games vs Suns without Kawhi, with Kawhi the Clips could win it all.

Why would the Suns be scared? It's not like the Lakers posed a serious threat to them this year.

The chance was minimal they would've made the play-in at that point anyway, much less the playoffs. Even if they miraculously made and scraped through the play-in, they'd be facing a better, more experienced version of the Suns that beat them last year. AD might be healthier in this rematch, but would he have compensated for how much the Lakers regressed on both ends since last season?

If the Suns had any motivation for ousting them, it was payback for AD's comments last month where he used his injury to discredit the Suns's win. The likeliest explanation, though, is that the Suns simply started resting until the playoffs now that they've clinched the winningest record in franchise history and already have playoffs-wide HCA.

Of course they were going to take that game seriously after AD's comments. The Lakers had the perfect opportunity to back up AD's claims (win that game, make it into the play-in and then draw them in the first round), but of course Lebron ducked out.
