The beginning of the end. I really to see this happening to you Klaw.
Things really went south as soon as he turned his back on Toronto. :facepalm

there's an elevated risk of injury if you return from that injury before a full year goes by. they say the longer you wait the better. the clippers aren't winning this year with or without him
a title team needs at least 2 or 3 months playing together to figure things out. the sun's, bucks, Celtics, mavs, warriors and heat are the only teams I can see winning it this year

Mavs are a reasonable darkhorse IMO. Only team I could see buzzsawing them is the Suns. If they can somehow avoid that series or get lucky, I dont see a team in either conference I’d call a no-brainer over the Mavs. Theyve had some nice primetime wins against MIL and BOS recently, obv it’s not the same as the playoffs but they can hang with pretty much anyone.
Everyone on Dallas is playing pretty well right now and they dont have any major injuries. Theyre def not a team to overlook.

I wonder if Kawhi has more than 3 seasons left as he approaches 32 ( at least as an MVP level talent). Seems like he's not going to be healthy enough again for a season+ playoffs deep run.

His playstyle should translate to reasonable longevity as long as he can actually get on the court and avoid any more serious injuries.
But I wouldnt hold my breath.

I wouldn't either....recurring lower body injuries is a bad sign. And it's not like it took him to 30+ to get this way, he was pretty much mid 20's when this started.

Can you show us an example of Kawhit building a team from nothing to a title contender?
-Joined a Spurs team that was winning 60 games a year and had won 4 titles
-Joined a Raptors team that was winning 59 games a year and a 2nd round/ECF team
-Joined a Clippers team that won 48 games and playoffs without a single all-star or all-NBA team
Definitely of a 'cherry on the top' frontrunner needing already built teams. He has zero leadership skills needed to galvanize the troops.
Dallas was a 24 win team the year Luka joined. They're now a 52 win without a single second all-star on the roster ( and would have damn near been a 50 win team his 2nd year if not for covid fukking up the season). Drop Kawhi on a 20 win team and let's see what he does. Otherwise STFU Dennis...

That Spurs team lost in the 1st round to Memphis though.
I mean, taking a team from 1st round to championship doesn't seem too 'cherry on top' to me.

It is when that team won 61 games and already has rings.
Dallas went from 55 wins and a first round exit to 57 wins and a title. Sometimes a team has a bad series or has a bad matchup. That doesn't change the fact that they were already a good team when they lost in the first round.
That is completely different from going to a crap team and turning them into a title contender.

Only 3 teams had a better record than Dallas. That is hardly a miracle. They didn't even face a game 7 in any series.

Because they beat the heat in the finals. What "miracle" series win did they have prior to that?
Let's not forget that Memphis wasn't your typical 8 seed. They were 10 games over .500 with Gasol/Conley/Randolph. Over the next 4 seasons they won 63% of their games.

That doesn't alter my point though. Kawhi at every phase of his career has joined playoff level teams. He's never been in a situation where a franchise was built from the ground up with him as the centrepiece. Furthermore the year after that Memphis loss they went to the conference finals, with Kawhi as an 8ppg rookie.

David Robinson's last healthy year with spurs before Duncan was drafted he led them to a 56-26 record
Then he was gifted the greatest backcourt of all time in Parker\Manu
Shaq had Kobe\Wade
Kareem had Oscar\Magic

How did the 2020 Raptors do after Kawhi left? They must have folded, surely? Let's see.......nope got to game 7 of the second round.
The Clippers this year much have won about 20 games yeah? I mean Kawhi missed the entire season and PG13 missed most of it. Quick look.......nope the 8th seed. Well when Kawhi went down in the playoffs last year, Clippers must have not won another game, surely? Nope, got to the conference finals.

Kawhi was already 3rd in minutes by 2012, so you can't say he wasn't doing anything that season. But they got embarrassed and backdoor swept by the baby thunder.
Raptors were swept in the 2nd round and fired their coach, bubble ball don't count. They won 27 games last season.
Clippers this season couldn't even beat Karl Anthony Towns in a must win game hahahaaha bums
Kawhi led clippers in VORP and win shares last playoffs despite playing like half of george's minutes. When you get carried to that extent, you should be ready to go and win a few games. Still lost in 6 to suns despite Chris Paul taking two games off.

None of this shit matters to what I said. I said 'Kawhi has never played on a team that wasn't a playoff team without him'. That's the truth of the matter. Now if you wish to nitpick and bring up VORP bullshit knock yourself out, it doesn't change the basic fact that Kawhi has always played with teams that are competitive without him. Nothing dumb about it. Every single team that Kawhi has joined were playoff teams. When he takes a lottery cast to the playoffs, when he joins a 25 win team one offseason, and his presence bolsters them into the playoffs the very next year, then that argument is dead. Until then, don't be mad at the facts.

The Clippers ultimately won because they were the better team. Neither series in 2020 or 2021 should have gone 7. Luka dropping 34/9/9 or whatever he dropped with PG13 as his running mate and the rest of Clippers squad is light years better than the Mavs squad outside of Luka.
