Suffered a calf strain last night, surprised nobody mentioned it.

Mavs are waiting on the MRI results before they make an official announcement about his status.

This has the potential to be horribly ironic if Doncik misses significant playing time because of the injury. Luka was originally supposed to miss game 82 because he picked up his 16th technical foul Friday night against Portland. But the NBA rescinded the foul on Saturday, which made Luka eligible to play against Utah.

People were complaining about the Bucks resting their entire starting 5.
And this happens to Luka playing in a meaningless game.

A bit unfortunate too that the Mavs drew the very first playoff game to be played, Saturday at noon :lol

Still, it’s nearly a week away. He oughtta be fine by then.

It wasnt meaningless per se at the time, if theyd won and the warriors lost they would have moved up to third and changed spots in the bracket. Meaning they avoid the Suns until the conference finals rather than divisional round. Which would have been helpful since the Suns are their worst matchup, it might have given someone else a chance to knock em off first.

It obv doesnt seem worth it in hindsight if Luka ends up hampered. But they had a legitimate reason to play their starting lineup.

1-6 weeks, depending on severity.

Recall Durant started with a strained calve muscle, that he came back too early from, and was favoring not fully extending his calve muscle so as a result was moving more like a stiff “toe runner” and then injured his Achilles.

Almost a day later and no update yet. Not good.
Probably looking for a 2nd opinion before they put the new out.

Could be. The reports last night were that the team wasnt too concerned, but today seems to be a bit of a different story.

Hopefully he can channel LeDurable and recover quick.

Luka’s problem is his game relies on some athletic ability but he has a body like John Goodman.

He'll be 24 years old with 0 playoff series wins. Fat white tracy mcgrady. Why did he sign that extension.

MJ was 1-9 over his first 3 playoffs. Luka's playoffs career in the same stretch, taking peak Kawhit and a much better Clippers team to 7 games twice, is considerably better. And his team made the playoffs this year with him missing the entire season and PG13 missing most of it. This will hurt you badly, but when we say Kawhit has played basically his entire career with teams that are playoffs teams with or without him, it's not hyperbole. This is the historical record. :(

Haven't heard about the severity of that calf strain so it could be from like 1 week to him missing the entire POs. Sucks for Mavs fans because Mavs would win that Jazz series quite easily with a healthy Doncic. Jazz have no one to guard him and Mavs could do what Clippers did to Utah in last year's POs.

What's more, mike conley is also playing which gives toody and their team a legit chance to advance again past the first round. Now if the 34-year old wouldn't be around then the mavs will have better chances of succeeding instead, even with a hampered luka doncic.

Hopefully not too serious. Luka has a legit shot a top 10 all time so we need him health for all his playoff runs.

I mean it’s literally been proven his teams don’t need him to make the playoffs on 3 different teams now lmfao. That year he missed in San Antonio? Playoffs. The year he left Raptors? Almost made the ECF. This year without him AND mostly without his co star? Still playoffs. He’s never been in anything close to a situation where he’s had to carry a team (people think he was because he scored a lot in Toronto but that’s not how it works). Literally every other superstar I can think of has, he truly is the luckiest superstar of all time when it comes to supporting casts.

Like, HBK_Klit tries to give Luka shit because he's lost twice to Kawhit in the playoffs, without considering that taking him to 7 says much more( positive) about Luka than it does Kawhit. I mean look at this years Mavs team winning 52 games....can you imagine Kawhit getting that many wins out of that squad? Hell, you'd be lucky nowadays if Kawhit PLAYS 52 games, let alone expect him to lead a team to that many wins with the kind of supporting cast Luka has.

Only because of King Kawhi's leadership and presence.

Reggie jackson is always talking about kawhi's leadership and how he turned his career around.

Let me know when the fat gimp finally wins a playoff series, he's already going to be 24

After what Jason Kidd & Luka have stated…

… while we respect guys playing hurt…

…Mavs doctors & training staff must do their absolute best to be honest about what can happen playing on a strained calve muscle.

Let’s look back at exactly what happened to Durant. And learn from it, if it applies.

Mavs could still beat the Jazz even without Doncic.

Mavs haven't made a decision about whether Luka will play in game 1 vs Jazz, or at least they claim they haven't. But Vegas has the Jazz favored by 5 pts despite them being the lower seed and playing on the road, so it's pretty obvious they don't expect to see Luka.

If i am the Mavs i definitely hold him out the first two games. Game 3 isn't until next Thursday so that is an extra week of rest.

Marc Stein: The Mavericks have officially listed Luka Doncic (left calf strain) as doubtful for Saturday’s Game 1 against visiting Utah (https://*********.com/social/). The expectation remains, as it has been all week, that Luka will miss Game 1 at a minimum and possibly Game 2. More NBA from me: marcstein.Substack.com
