For over two decades, the West has undisputedly been considered the stronger conference. And justifiably so: it's had disproportionately more superstars and legitimate title-contenders for much of that time, in addition to a winning interconference record and more championships.

The tides seemed to have started turning in the late 2010s, however, with up-and-comers like the Celtics, Bucks, and 76ers—not to mention, the star-studded Nets vaulting into contention in the 2019 offseason. Neither conference seems top-heavy anymore, with each housing multiple likely-looking contenders.

Perfect parity is unattainable, of course, but is there still a disparity? Has the East finally eclipsed the West, even?

For point of reference, the East won the interconference match-ups 226-224 this season. This obviously isn't dispositive in itself; there's more to weight than that in any logical criteria, not the least of which includes the playoffs. Still, it's noteworthy that this is the first time the East has had the better regular-season record since 2008-09.

Which conference, if any, do you think is clearly better as of 2022? Discuss and share your rationales.

Well, if you look at the last four teams in the top 10 seeds from both conferences you'll notice that those from the east easily have more win totals. By that, i mean none of them have less than 40 wins in the rs. Whereas in the west this year teams could make it into the postseason even if they have losing record when historically, their conference counterpart has been like that for decades. What's interesting to see in the future is the top 8 seeds in the east having at least 50 wins in the rs, like what the west did in the 2007-08 season.
