View Full Version : OFFICIAL ISH BBALL THEORY - "the 2 point guard lineup"... aka "bron-ball"

Some players don't officially start at PG but become a 2nd point guard on the floor after tip-off (2nd player with a point guard hold-time) - these 2 point guard lineups give teammates less hold-time and assists than they get in traditional 1 point guard lineups, so the TEAM has low assists and struggles on the championship level.
The math that drives this theory is 2 specific stats - time of possession (2 players with a PG hold-time) and teammates having lower assists alongside Lebron (hence the low TEAM assists).
All disputes of this theory are welcomed below and will be countered or explained

Neither of these apply with Magic/Norm
We don't have hold-time stats for Magic/Norm and teammate assists didn't decrease alongside them, so the team didn't have low assists like Lebron's teams
The hold-time stats confirm that Lebron gives teammates less hold-time, while the assist stats reflect lower teammate assists and therefore low TEAM assists

The real answer for the Lakers would be to get a time machine and go back and prevent the Westbrook trade and keep Caruso, KCP, and Kuzma. In this situation Lebron is the teams only point guard, as he had been the last 2 years, and they don't have this issue. Lebron can play off-ball to a degree, as he has this year, but asking that much of a change at this stage isn't really going to help either.
Plus you actually have backcourt individuals on your roster who can defend. You basically traded your youth and defense for Westbrook. And you didn't need Westbrook because Lebron can do all of that and is better at it anyway.
Really bad decision.
EDIT: was that too serious of an answer?

Agreed
The Lakers won with Lebron at point guard where his ball-dominance is normal - it was his first ring without a 3rd star, which was required of his previous 2 point guard lineups
But ultimately.... bad fits = skill deficit, so Lebron lacks the skills to fit with everyone or play any system like Kobe or MJ, so he needs more help and wins much less

There's cooler ways to do it that make me look worse than spamming pics
I recommend taking pointers from Shawk, SouBeach or 87' Lakers

Lebron robbed Durant from winning an organic ring in 2012 by forming a colluded super-team
Then he stole organic rings from Duncan in 13' and Curry in 16'.
Now he's stolen Jokic's chip in 2020 - Jokic's goat stats are a waste because Lebron's deck-stacking upsets the natural competitive environment..
The worst part is that despite hand-picking the preseason favorite from 2011-2016 and 2020-2022 (9 years), he was perennial Finals underdog and only has 4 titles.. No one lost more with preseason favorites (favored talent), which equals weak brand of ball.
Specifically, Lebron starts at forward but then becomes a 2nd point guard on the floor (2 guys with a point guard hold-time) - these 2 point guard lineups give teammates less hold-time and assists than they get in traditional 1 point guard lineups, so the TEAM has low assists and struggles on the championship level.
This worst-ever brand mostly lost after hand-picking the league's best talent from 2011-2016 and 2020-2022.. aka no one underachieved the expectation more than Lebron - he couldn't win a weak East with homecourt in 09/10, so he formed super-teams that fell from preseason favorite to Finals underdog or loser for 6 straight years (11-16')... Now he's lottery out West without AD to lead the scoring (better brand needed out West).. The historical record confirms everything I'm saying.
