This is just a poll for curiosity. ISH is a Judgment-Free Zone and we are not here to judge your living arrangements one way or the other. We understand that times are tough financially and that living with your parents provides assistance. We also understand that mental health issues are on the rise and that there could be a disconnect with reality and other human beings, so living at home provides the safety and security of avoiding others and of having adult responsibilities.
So please...answer accordingly and without shame.

I know 2 guys that still live with their parents at age 30-32. both are retarded on disability with schizophrenia. they're always available so I kept them around to play basketball during the day in the summers but lately it's become embarrassing knowing them so I ghosted both a few months ago

I remember a few years ago a High School friend of mine moved back to Cali for a job offer. He moved to Indiana after HS, but was coming back after like 7 years without seeing him. I was close with him growing up and so were a few friends who I still talk to, I actually introduced him to those other friends when we were like in middle school.
He did tell us he was moving in with his parents while he got enough money from this new job and move out, but we were all shocked just how broke he was. Like the 1st day he moved back we all took him out to eat, he confessed to us he had no money so we all had to pay for his meal, which was no big deal. The way we saw it, he would be back on his feet in no time once he stars working....then shit hit the fan quick.
- He starts working, but would blow all his money every weekend drinking.
- Gets into a dispute with his parents and gets kicked out, moves in with a cousin or something.
- Finds a gf, she shows up to a party we were all at, she flirts with one of my other friends who I will call B, I actually witness this.
- That same girl finds B's IG or something and begins to flirt with him etc etc..
- Friend who moved back to Cali calls me furious, says he knows that his girl is talking to B (Btw my old friend and B didn't really know each other, they had just met once he moved back)
- Has a drunken meltdown and threatens to beat Mr. B up, but never does.
- Gets fired from his new job because he was always showing up late due to drinking every night
- Moves back to Indiana
All this happened like in a span of a month, I had never seen someone self destruct like that, I knew he was somewhat wild when we were younger, but as adults he had turned into a completely self destructive person. I obviously did not know this. He called me like a year after he moved back to Indiana but I didn't bother answering the phone, but I do hope he is better.

people are who they're gonna be for the rest of their life by age 25. if they're broke at 27 or 30 they're gonna be broke at 40 and 50 and die at 60 alone after kidney and liver failure or heart disease.
there's no excuse to ever be broke. I'm lazy as hell but when I got like 3 months weekend work release I did this donation bagging/bundling shit for a thrift store and was lifting big ass furniture and tube tvs all day. throwing metal in bins and lugging shit for 6 hours every Saturday and Sunday. never stole a thing. never took a break. never complained cause I knew I'd be in jail if I didn't. when your backs against the wall you should have a basic survival instinct built in that makes you do whatever necessary. they said I was the best worker they ever had and I hadn't done any real work in like a decade prior to it.
for anyone to be so corrupted to the point where they can't keep a job when they need money is pure psychological damage or drug addiction. those people are completely helpless and you have to cut them off as soon as possible. I probly gifted these 2 retarded friends of mine 1000+ meals and rides and they never once learned anything in the time I knew them. those people aren't gonna improve. it's too late for them

Nope but I lived with my parents until I got married which was mid 20s.
Not ashamed of it because there is no way in hell I would have afforded a house without living at home.

A friend lived with his parents till 27-28 , had cars , beautiful boat for water sports and low behold , saved which I was unaware of .
Built a beautiful home , and became a president of a bank.
He had his shit together/
I lost my father , step dad, and mom , but my mom moved in for a short while recovering from a knee surgery.

One of my best friends lived with his parents until 26 after law school and landing a stable job. If your parents let you rent-free, why not? I'd imagine his credit would be complete shit if he didn't have help. And with the rent vs income levels these days, "moving out when you're 18" without mommy and daddy paying your rent is going to be impossible.

I'm honestly surprised 1 in 5 young adults were living with their parents as early as the 80's, I would've guessed pre financial crisis it was at most half that. That spousal decline though is fcking insane :lol

Serious question, is being supported by your parents/family financially really that much different than living with them?

So I guess we can establish that the only person on the board that lives with his parents is RRR3/Axe. But we already knew that. I was hoping more people would have come forward as well.

I lived with my parents when I went to college. Worked 2 different jobs and saved enough money to finish paying for school completely once I was done. Nothing wrong with doing it as long as you have decent goals in the future that you're going to accomplish. The staggering divorce rates and absurd house prices are for me the main two issues why so many people are moving back with their parents and I can't blame them.

My soon to be 38 year old sister still lives with my parents, got married last year and moved the husband into the homestead, and just had a baby last month. Pretty much been a leech her entire life and the way how I fell out with my mom a year ago over it, it wouldn't surprise me if she inherits the house. I mean why not, she'd been given everything else so why stop now? Outside of the year I lived at home after university, I pretty much been doing my own thing since I was like 20. Bought my house and first car when I was 24....

women are children. way different. you can't expect them to be able to survive on their own unless they're insanely attractive or have kids to leach off the government and babies daddies
