It was a weak year for DPOY, Gobert had somewhat of an off year, Draymond & Adebayo missed a chunk of games which kinda disqualified them, Smart plays for a team with very good defensive talent, I'm sure the Celtics being so good defensively as a team helped his case.

Robert Williams could be and the fact that the Celtics have 2 legit DPoYs as pay off a starting five that could all be all defence is why they were so far ahead of everyone else defensively in 2022. I can't wait until Leonard returns so that your fixation can turn elsewhere. Dumb bs from "fans" doesn't help players. Tatum is a great defensive player but people that watch the Celtics know he doesn't lead the Celtic defense. The true verbal leaders are Smart and Horford. Smart is also out there drawing charges at key moments and getting in the face of anyone and everyone the Celtics need him to regardless of position. Tatum is versatile and can guard most players at a high level. But he's not the leader, nor the brain of the defense like Smart and Horford are and he doesn't menace the paint like Robert Williams.
