View Full Version : is Bob dylan proof that a great song is about the sound and not the story or lyrics

bob dylan is the worst song writer in history. he would write songs that sounded like utter shit and other more talented people would take that song and turn it into a classic. and it wasn't even a broke or made better type moment like with little help from my friends by the Beatles being made slightly better by joe crocker or the man who sold the world by David bowie being made better by nirvana. its a flat out shit song like nothing compares to you by prince that was somehow saved with an abstract take on it by sinead O'Connor. that song by prince is so bad I can't make it last 30 seconds. but the one by that bald idiot is actually really good.
that's all of Bob dylans songs. and it's not even like he can't sing. which he can't.. the worst part is he doesn't even have the same tempo or rhythm.
first example:
https://youtu.be/oecX_1pqxk0
what a steaming hot pile of dog shit. it sounded good for the first 2 seconds then it fell off the tracks and became a forgetful song
OK here's the remake that we all know and love
https://youtu.be/NyOzGPbn2tg
wow. now that's a song I can stomach. good job Mr Byrd. you and your flock of singers are truly masters of tone and rhythm. you saved a diaper full of baby shit and turned it into a masterpiece

oh dear God. who can even make it past that harmonica nail being hammered into your ear at the start. did he even listen to the recording after he was finished. R.I.P headphone users. I'd punch that gimp midget f*ck in the throat if he was around today. I don't even know if he's dead but I doubt anyone would care anyway
and then there's this classic that saved that putrid vomit

next example but not quite as bad but still forgettable:
https://youtu.be/cCV84dTevX0
it sounds sorta OK but still just a very poorly made version of what we all know and love. it's pace is too fast with all the wrong instruments. sounds like a down syndrome is singing it. just awful
and then this came out and it's the only song we ever hear on the radio now for the past 30 years
https://youtu.be/hlSIGK7S8Is
now I've gotten sorta tired of this song. it's simply not that great of a song in general. but guns and roses did make it somewhat passable. thank you Mr Axl and Mr top hat

Bob's barf

good version

like seriously.. did anyone ever teach Bob about rhythm/timing.. I know he could never sing for shit. but damn dude what are you good for other than writing lyrics. but like John Lennon once said. the lyrics are meaningless. just make the song sound good and fill in the words with fruits till you got a hit

now this one isn't a song dylan wrote. but it proves just how out of touch he is trying his own take on something.

this version came out in 1963
yeah man.. leave it to the professionals thanks
1964

na. I haven't heard that played on the radio since GNR came out with their version. the only reason people say dylans is now the superior song is because people are sick of Axl's stupid voice. it took 30 years but it happened. it's like trying to listen to bohemian rhapsody or Billie Jean today. it's impossible cause they're over exposed
its one of those "you had to be there to understand" things

Bob Dylan's version has more heart and soul.
Guns N Roses cover sucked, it didn't have the emotion of the original, then there is that obnoxious "hey, hey, hey" in the lyrics. Just awful.

well that's just a personal opinion. personally I think both suck. but GNRs versions popularity being 10 times that of dylans makes it clearly the superior song. like I said its hard to enjoy Axls voice if you're not a fan of his music. it's like ACDC. I think they're repetitive trash but they have millions of fans so they're a great band regardless of my personal opinion

If you go by popularity then Titanic is a better movie than say Trainspotting.
Think for yourself sheep.

I mean it is music, so sound is going to be pretty important to a lot of people. But I don't disagree with you.
Dolly > Whitney with "I Will Always Love You" to me for that very reason.
