This is like Kawhi in the finals vs the warriors….except if it happened every single damn round….. doesn’t count

It does make me wonder why are there so many injuries today? In the 90s guys played every game. And it was tougher back then. Were living in a ***** era.

Not as many as in the past couple years. Its been an epidemic. Go look at the 90s. When were MJ, Barkley, Hakeem, Malone, Reggie, Ewing. Stockton, Payton, Kemp, Clyde, Shaq, Robinson etc hurt? Rarely. They mostly always play where as half the stars today sit out so they can not risk their next enormous contract.

The only (*) rings are 89-00 because that was the steroid era, and 68-75 because of the ABA

Kobe played every playoff game in 2002, 2004, 2008, 2009, and 2010. He played 90% of 2000. That's the point. He was banged up but still played. Today's players are ******* and will sit out at the drop of a hat.

there were injuries. They played through them. I remember thinking Stockton was done about half way through his career when he sucked one post season. Found out after he retired that he couldn't lift his arm because of his shoulder.

Yea but that's commendable to me. They played through the pain. And still played great a lot of the time. Stockton went off in the west playoffs as late as 1998. Where as guys today sit because there's so much money on the line. Kawhi can play... he's just not going to risk hundreds of millions of dollars if he snaps his leg. Dudes today are soft. They make too much money to make trying to win worth it.

Tbh it became an asterisk ring the moment the Lakers traded for Westbrook.
You cant saddle the GOAT-BITW with the biggest net negative player in years and think other teams can take any pride in winning a chip. Westbrook completely negated the biggest playoff obstacle teams normally have to go thru.
The title doesnt count this year.

so because of lebrons idiocy choosing brick over derozan it's an asterisk? no that's just poor manipulation of management on lebrons part.
only manipulated anomalies can be considered asterisks. it can't be flukes that happen every year
manipulated anomalies = ring chasing/colluding/bubbles/do or die bail outs/suspensions/lockouts/strikes etc...

Lebron and Davis weren't going anywhere when they weren't even on the court with or without Westbrook

Curry coming off the bench has nothing to do with injury. Steph saying that it doesnt matter that he's coming off the bench sounds better than him admitting Poole's the better player.

any playoffs where lebron doesn't make it due to injuries are an automatic asterisk. he's literally been in the finals every healthy season for a decade plus.

You left out the biggest one. No Ben Simmons for the Nets. This is officially a Mickey Mouse ring, unless the Sixers win it.

At some point everyone has to come to peace with the fact that you considering anything an asterisk means absolutely nothing. Something like 50 Hall of Fame baseball players were enlisted during World War II. Nobody says the yankee 3 peat doesn’t count. They get they 25-26 banners and nobody asks how.
Absolutely nothing matters but who wins in the end. Rings aren’t weighted in the real world only emotionally for a few years then in places like this nobody cares about.
You feeeeeeel like Dirk gets 3 rings for 2011 and Hakeem 3 for 1994 and so on. But when it’s time to make the lists none of them are where you’d put them if they actually won the extras.
Its fun to rank rings and all that for a laugh but in the end history just records who won and the 78 year olds still complaining about how are totally drowned out by the deafening indifference to what old people think.
Everything counts. Just the way it is.

only problem is that by the time guys become so old that their asterisks get forgotten. so do the players themselves. not too many people going around debating jerry west vs Oscar Robertson anymore or wilt vs Russell
same fate will be for Kobe and lebron. sure lebrons asterisks will go away and kobes off court issues will be forgotten as well. but so will they after 50 years. the only guy that keeps his place among current popular culture is the goat. and that's MJ. he will be remembered and compared with till he's topped. everyone else will fall victim to irrelevance. when was the last time anyone even gave a shit about a Kareem debate and he's been the 2nd goat for 30+ years
if you ain't first. you're last

I don’t know how long Lebron holds on. He came along just in time to te darling of the social media generation and that isn’t going anywhere.
The pre internet era guys vanish. I guess we will see what the guys with legions of online followers do.

you actually think anyone will care about lebron after he's retired. the media tossed aside kobe the minute they found a new poster boy. same will be done when the new cash cow arises.
kobes autographed cards dropped to 100$ canadian. I sold one a few days before he died. now they're like 2500$ canadian. kobes legacy was losing a ton of steam around 2020 before his accident. and he was very global and polarizing. it happens to everyone. Kobes legacy might live on like some tragic kurt cobain/james dean/tupac type boost but lebrons not gonna live on unless he either dies or catches MJ among majority opinion. and he'll never do it with 4 rings. Kareem had the points record and 6 rings and that wasn't enough. he was in bruce Lee movies and air plane. he played in LA. he had plenty of exposure. the media rewrites narratives to sell current stories and the same way they killed kobe to prop up lebron will be done to him to prop up giannis in a year or 2. every morning show will say "lebron never did that or lebron couldn't do this. then when he gets a little better they will say "jordan never did that or jordan couldn't do this"
then lebrons finished. and the next guy will be compared to giannis then MJ. and so on

Injuries are part of the game, and they always will be. Injuries don't make a ring an asterisk. Lockouts and shortened seasons do though.
