This really only applies to publicly held companies. Private companies can pursue a number of interests besides profits, so long as ownership is willing to subsidize any budgetary shortfalls.

Thats why this move is a big deal to the “concept” of Twitter. They dont have to try to find some awkward balance of being woke to protect their public image, while risking a loss of users from increased censorship... they can just say “we’re making this what we want it to be, deal with it.”

Yup, data and advertisements are pretty much how social media companies (including facebook, twitter, Instagram, etc) all generate revenue. However, the data has the most value by far. Facebook has shown us how valuable the data is because it helped them figure out people's patterns and what other apps they used, which helped them decide which apps to buy & why those particular apps were liked. They then would integrate those ideas into their own stuff and also figure out what other companies to buy based on user interactions & patterns. They also used the patterns of people to design their stuff with a focus on addiction aka altering their mind in a way like cocaine and meth to keep them coming back. The third benefit is of course being able to sell that data to other companies/firms for billions of dollars.

Facebook got caught doing shady stuff & were forced to publicly answer to Congress. That is how we found out some of the things they were doing. It would be foolish to think twitter doesn't do the same stuff with that data. If Twitter goes private, us public will probably also lose the ability to know what the data will get used for.

The former ACLU director was on Bill Maher recently. He was horrified at the direction the left has taken in regards to stifling free speech. Especially from large social media corporations that are working with the government on monitoring Americans. He said he was even disappointed with the current ACLU because they have stated they are ok with limiting politically incorrect speech in many instances. It goes against what they stand for. With the Chewing being a pedo example I was trying to illustrate how Twitter focuses on harmful slander against individuals as it looks like the #1 reason for bans was slander and violent insults directed toward trans/gays. If someone is being falsely accused in a way that could harm them or their family I do think the platform should take steps against it.

That said, this example of fake news here with the Trump-Russia connection. I do not think that is okay either. And Twitter is covered in fake news over the last election being rigged as well. And Twitter let it fly even when Trump himself was declaring the election to be rigged. The point where they stepped in is in relation to Jan. 6 and it had to do with the potential harm of others. Had Hillary asked citizens to rise up and raid the White House or something then I absolutely think she should be not only banned from Twitter but thrown in jail.
