I stopped working to travel myself. I’m actually gonna spend like 3 weeks in Texas starting this weekend. I bounce around and find good food spots like you mentioned. I have a notepad with places I like or want to try in cities I’ve been or know I’ll get to. It’s nice usually. Oddly enough the biggest liberal displays I’ve ever seen were all in red states. Louisiana, Florida, and Texas. I guess protesters are drawn to where they assume opposition is. I did not expect the black/trans bike protest blocking the road in Louisiana. I’m sure you can find pockets of any belief most anywhere but if opposing views really bug you I’m not sure where you go to be free from it.

You could find conservatives anywhere. California has some really rural areas. Texas has some really liberal areas. Everywhere has something. Well not everywhere I think Arkansas was the most nothing I’ve ever seen in person.

Even Mississippi and Alabama have nice parts. There’s a beautiful part of Alabama that essentially west Florida. I spent days just walking around beaches, sitting on big rocks that appear at low tide, and eating well.

Travel is as good a way to waste time as any.

Im thinking Galveston, San Antonio, Austin, and Fort Worth this trip. Houston is almost too large to visit without knowing locals. Feels like it’s just a concrete sprawl for an hour and a half in every direction with nothing really noteworthy to see. At least for someone like me who will just wander and find something to do. I need a guide for Houston.

If I do Toronto this year I’ll have to come on here and get some tips. Real people tend to know better than Google lists of what to see. I’d never travel with an animal though.

I had my girlfriend bringing her little dog when I first started traveling last year and it is such a hassle. Not even taking the extra expense and limited housing options. If you want actual meaningful change in your life, it is to change your own character and personality which is the most difficult thing to do. That means many of the habits you have right now have to be changed. Acknowledging those bad habits isn't enough, you have to go 180 on most of them.
