View Full Version : Why did Curry get subbed in the last seconds of the game 1 vs Memphis ?

Can someone explain to me why Curry got taken out in the final seconds of a close game? Usually a coach tries to keep his best players on the floor in those crucial moments.

Is he injured?

Coach wanted to make sure he doesn't get hurt like Embiid from the dirty Grizzlies players. They knew the Grizz wouldn't score so no need to risk it.

In a 1 point game when the game was on the line? Don't they need their best player in those clutch moments? Or is that team so great that they can put the best player on the bench? There must be a reason. I never seen MJ or Bron get subbed in those clutch moments? Why is that?

Ah. I think I see what the confusion is here.

Youre thinking of the REGULAR season.

This is the playoffs now.

This is the playoffs now.

We are in 2022, covid era, game 1 of the second playoff round, Memphis vs GSW.

Game is MEM 116-117 GSW, a few more seconds to go and Curry gets taken out by Steve Kerr. Explanation please? Usually coaches try to keep their best players on the floor in those crucial moments...

Can no one answer this simple question?

Btw, i can write in 5 other languages if english is not someone else's first language. Just ask, because i'm really curious about what's the reason behind it...

Cause you can always rely on Lebron flopping to draw an offensive foul

The game wasn't on the line. Grizzlies weren't going to score.

So Gary Payton II could check Morant. He's the best guard defender in this matchup on both teams.

Well, as I said, we're in the playoffs now. So your mistake is in thinking Curry is their best player.

But listen, I see from your join date you're still a fairly new poster here. So you probably have not yet developed the same level of basketball understanding as, for instance, a veteran poster from the Lebron Fam.

Don't get discouraged just because you made a mistake in understanding the difference between Regular Season Curry and Playoff Curry. You'll get a better grasp of these things with time, once youve been around this board for a little while. Stick with it.

Lebald is far from "elite defensively".

but it seems you were the only one to watch the game. you're right, it was a jump ball with almost no time left. why would you want Curry on the court? you want tall and/or athletic players that can grab that jump ball tip.

of course the bran tards are in here talking gibberish, as usual.

His agenda is to call Curry shit on defense. Probably just another LeBron stan alt.

So Curry is great on defense? Why would the head coach take a great defensive player out in a crucial moment then?
I promise you Kerr will never take Klay or Dray out in such a moment. It just goes to show how retarded the takes are "Curry is an amazing" defender when even his own coach hasn't got confidence in him...

OP is talking about the last possession fool.

Curry had 5 fouls and they had only a 1 pt lead so they expected Memphis to attack the rim, which they did. Kerr wanted more size in the game. Not hard to understand.

I don't see how the 5 fouls mattered, they were simply trying to get the guys with the best combination of winning 50/50's and defending.

There is always the chance of OT and obviously you don't want Curry fouling out on a defensive possession. Plus GS is a small team so it makes sense to put more size in the game in that situation.

Plus GS is a small team so it makes sense to put more size in the game in that situation.I mean, I guess both could be true. You can protect Curry and ALSO have your best defensive lineup out there. I mean, Poole wasn't out there either and he wasn't in danger of fouling out- dude's just not a good defender.

I honestly don't see how OT could happen though. Memphis makes a bucket and wins or Warriors hold on and win. 1 point game. Sure, there's always that possibility, but it's so small that there's no way that if Curry was a defensive juggernaut with 5 fouls he wouldn't be in there for that last few seconds.

Obviously they would foul rather than giving up an easy layup or dunk. Down 1 I am sure Kerr was expecting them to attack the rim and obviously rim protection isn't Steph's thing.

Still don’t understand why Kerr took such a great player out in a clutch moment game 1. Never seen a coach take out Durant,Lebron,MJ, or any other great player.

The Grizzlies were lucky this time, Steph did an amzing job limiting Morant to 47-8-8 despite being the worst with -11 on his team again. Great on both ends of the floor, what a player!
