It's like watching Kobe on the '98/'99 Lakers. He doesn't have it all together just yet, but you can tell that he's getting better with each game and is going to become a superstar one day.

Unfortunately, kobe had to learn first how to become a sidekick tho..

As a Warriors fan, Morant is definitely better.

However, Poole's year-by-year improvement has been phenomenal and he could very well end up better if he keeps improving at this rate.

Poole is a sidekick right now as well. Kobe got his sidekick ring in '00 and then became a superstar.

But unlike poole he grew jealous and impatient of being one as time went over, right? Lol.

He grew impatient because Shaq didn't work hard. Shaq opted not to get surgery & rehab in the off-season and would come into the season out of shape and gained like 50 pounds in one season. Of course Kobe was pissed.

Meanwhile, kobe was immature and selfish during that time. Had a hard time complying with the triangle that oftentimes, resulted into feuds with shaq and their superior zenmaster. And that's one difference why he's not exactly someone like mj too.

Not yet no. But it's so damn amazing so many thought he was a reach when the Warriors drafted him... yet every year he's been getting better. 2 years back he got thrown to the wolves when everyone was hurt.... and he wasn't good. Last year he got better with Steph back but still was missing something. Then I believe he spent some time in the G league and now he's a budding star. The kid always had brass balls, he hit a do or die game winning 3 at the buzzer as a college freshman in the ncaa tourney. But that was 4 years ago and he's only gonna get better. I don't wanna overrate him but he has a high ceiling. Dunno if it's anywhere that Steph has reached, very much doubt that. But Klay? With handles? Maybe.

Nope. Issue was that the Lakers lost the depth they once had during their first 3-Peat, and Kobe was clearly the better player, but was forced by Phil to defer to Shaq, despite Shaq being in terrible shape and not as good as KB anymore. KB could have continued his 40-pt streak, but was forced to give up shots on offense because Shaq's ego couldn't take it in '03.

And if you're going to argue that it made the Lakers worse, Kobe in '03 averaged 33/6/5/2/1 on 46/41/86 splits in his last 40 games, and the Lakers went 31 - 9 in that stretch.

Well, phil probably would have been more lenient with kobe if he wasn't chaotic and reckless too. He was already becoming more potential as time passed by but he still missed a lot of shots which costed them some significant games during their final seasons together. At least shaq maintained a fg% of above 55% for that period despite his age and that's an influential factor in winning during playoff time. Kobe being a hardworker took some toll in the team's success.

It's the injuries. KB needed multiple surgeries after '03 + got re-injured during the '04 season and Malone was hurt all year and re-injured himself in the Finals as well. That team started off 20 - 5 (65-win pace) before Malone got hurt and was out for almost 3 months. That team could have won it all in '05 if they ran it back as the rule changes made it easier for Kobe to score, so the Pistons wouldn't have been able to play the same defense on him, and he was a little healthier that season.

Eh yea those injuries may be the biggest hurdle they had to face bt. Anyway malone was already wearing out at that point but i feel like kobe wouldn't have been aggravated with more of them had he not demanded for more hero ball. No doubt about his unparalleled determination to play despite being hurt but forcing it is not always a good thing in the long run or bigger picture. And he still has other teammates, after all. Guys like fish, fox and cook. Payton too if he never did struggle with the system. Nevertheless they could have made the 2004 series competitive also if shaq contributed more in defense and rebounding as well. But long before it too bad LA had been dealing with dramatic sagas for the team to be glued together for another title run.

Are we questioning the great kobe bryant? The only guard that was greater than iverson in his era?

Poole is longer, more robustly built, better shooter from all ranges, but Ja creates more highlights at the rim.

Building a team around Ja will yield more short term revenue in jersey and merchandise sales, but he is likely not to have a successful long career once injuries pile up on his 172lb frame.

Poole has a higher ceiling, but Ja is more of an electric highlight machine, short term.
