View Full Version : Ja Morant will have a Derrick Rose career trajectory, if he keeps playing this way

The man literally can jump out of the gym. He relies heavily on his athleticism in order to score buckets.
He tried something yesterday like: "bruh! It's entertaining, we know but don't kill yourself out there, play smart"
There was one play from last night's game where he literally attacked the paint, then jumped in the air. Draymond met Ja at the rim. The man twists and turns his body mid-air and proceeds by kicking the ball to the corner 3 guy and lands awkwardly. Like what are you doing? :biggums: He's going to get hurt sooner rather than later.
I am not a Ja Morant hater, whatsoever. Neither, I am a fan of his game.
I really hope that knee injury is light because that could the beginning of the end for him.

Needs to develop that J before the injuries start piling up. Rose was a better shooter in his 3rd season and still ended up getting hurt. Morant is lighter than Rose though, so that probably helps his knees, but he puts himself at risk far too often. It's like watching a running back who has 300+ carries every season. At some point it's going to catch up to him, even if he doesn't have a significant knee injury.

Ja seems less 'herky jerky' in his movements, and as said above is lighter so he may take less of a pounding on his lower body, but like any player who employs large degrees of athleticism he'll need to further progress as a shooter.

I agree. He is like 180 lbs running into guys 50 lbs larger than him at the rim.
It takes a huge toll on the body.

I concur. There are big risks with whatever flashy plays he may set up himself against many opponents, especially if they involve guys that are much beefier than him. The kid probably thinks he's a freight train like giannis who can bulldoze through bodies when his size and frame are actually a far cry from being one. Those dull falls from the nasty jumps and dunks he makes are a product of wack and reckless playstyle. It's only a matter of time until when his body can take such unnecessary punishing. But it seems memphis has already prepared for that ever since so they're likely less worried about it nowadays.

With Jarrett Allen on the team they'll always have a shot.

Im hoping this saves him from the Rose fate too. Rose was too big too strong in addition to too fast, Ja not so much.

He only played 57 regular games at age 22. He is incredible but his style of play is not sustainable, he simply relies too much on athletic ability and unorthodox plays. All the most athletic players who had long careers picked their spots, MJ, Vince Carter, Kobe, Lebron. You ultimately have to rely on skill or eventually you will get hurt dominating stickily off athletic ability.

Yep, rose could have been formidable if not for one thing you forgot; that is, being too soft for who he is.

Some people are meant to be shooting stars. They shine bright for a while then they burn out(penny tmac drose ect). That’s just sports. Just appreciate them while they are ablaze. Dude knocked steph curry out of the playoffs before. A top 10 player ever… He was an amazing player in his prime. He even went toe to toe with curry again the next year before he got hurt.

Sometimes before rushing to post a reply its prudent to contemplate what would be the purpose of your post, whether it makes sense or contributes to the discussion. However this requires one to not be a dingus, which is a condition you, unfortunately, do not fulfill.

Meltdown. Have you even seen rose play for a significant amount of time in two straight seasons after 2012? You dumbass.

if you jump into your defender when they are not off balanced, of course you are going to get hurt. but this is dog fighting, so getting hurt is the point of it all.
it's America, you can't have a pretty woman who is also smart, cus I sure as hell can tell you whoever that person is, has yet to be born.

What a stupid way to put his game 2 presence in jeopardy. :lol

Derrick didn’t play stupid like Ja. Derrick got hurt because of his bio mechanics. Not because of stupidity in the form of reckless-ness.
Where as Ja plays just as reckless as he is off the court.
D-Rose came off retarded off the court in a slow way, not a recklessly stupid kind of way like Ja. But on the court Rose was much more poised, better jump shooter, and decision maker. Where as Ja I used to think was fearless but not more so reckless, which is still entertaining in the way watching a car wreck is as well. His play style definitely isn’t sustainable. He’s like an Iverson and Westbrook cross breed.
Fearless? Lol you should never associate that word with a cocky ass kid who's going to sue a teenager for throwing a basketball on his face. :yaohappy:
