View Full Version : What’s the argument for the current East being better than the 2018 East?

These Celtics, 6ixers, Raptors, Bucks are basically the same teams back in 2018, except you can argue todays teams are slightly worse

Celtics are less deep now (Horford is older, no rozier)

Sixers don’t have Simmons, Covington

Bucks don’t have Middleton cause of injury

Raptors don’t have Derozan, Lowry, Ibaka

The 2018 East was the strongest Eastern Conference of the last decade :pimp:

The main difference was Celtics were little pups back then. Its like Duncan beating LeBron in 07? Nobody cared because LeBron was too young. Tatum was 2 years younger then 07 LeBron

Celtics are in prime form now. They have a big 3 of their superstar and best player in the league Tatum, then the borderline allstars in Brown/Smart

They can squeeze all the juice out of Horford this season and maybe 1 last playoff run. Then replace him with Robert Williams shooting threes.

We're looking at possibly a dynasty. Kawhi meeting them in the finals 2-3 times in this decade

The main argument was supposed to be Brooklyn becoming a dominating force but that never materialized.

There's just more high end talent in the Conference now than there was 4 years ago. The best player Bran faced en route to the Finals in '18 was Victor Oladipo or Kyle Lowry, now he'd have to go through legitimate MVP candidates/top 5 players on good teams.

Agreed. Celtics in 2018 with Kyrie, definitely would’ve came out the East. Young puppies in Tatum and Brown took LeBron and Love’s Cavs seven games. Was a joke of a conference from 2013 - 2018.

And this mainly because of the Derrick Rose injury. Rose from 2012 before injury thru 2016 would have been back and forth with Miami/Cleveland.

Current more mature Celtics

Current Jimmy led Heat

Current Embiid and Sixers

Current Giannis and Bucks....

Are ALL....about 10 times better than anything LeBarry faced in 2018.

So go be a virgin somewhere else

Nope. '22 BI is also better than anyone Bran faced en route to the Finals in a lot of those seasons.

He barely beat a Boston team without it's two best players in '18.. and Tatum, Smart & Brown weren't anywhere close to where they are now.

Outside of LeBron the biggest superstars of 2018 were rookie Tatum, Victor Oladipo, Derozan, and baby Giannis.

Now we have prime Kevin Durant, prime Tatum, prime Jimmy Butler, prime Embiid, and peak Giannis. The east actually has stronger superstar talent than the west right now.

East might be better than the West and Lebron with a loaded team out west couldn't even make the play in playing with a prime Westbrook, Anthony Davis, Melo, Dwight.
