Smart got all but 1 first team vote and Bam missed first team by a single point. The media votes these days. Coaches used to but they changed it.

I wouldn’t make him all D but I like Fred. I saw a quote from him about how he was underrated so long he became overrated when people paid attention. He feels he is currently overrated and his play doesn’t always match his new respected status and he needed to get to work. It was just a refreshing take.

yeah he's a warrior. he played the second most minutes in the league this season and put the team on
his back many times. he put up 56 a couple of seasons ago on lights out shooting which is impressive because he doesn't shoot a lot.

not a bad career for an undrafted midget

I wonder if Boston having 6 players get a vote is a record.

The pistons had 4 in 2005. Not sure who else to check. I’ll have to think on it.

Tatum could also make it next season. Had any team ever had 3 guys?

'96 Bulls had 3 on the First Team.

Oh.

I was just talking people who got votes. Actually on the team at once the record is 3. Bulls all fist team with Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman but others had 3 on different teams. Billups, Prince, and Big Ben made it same year but only Ben was first team.

When Gobert was in, the Jazz defensive rating was more than 8 points better than when he was out. That was by far the best difference among the other defensive team members. For example, the Boston Celtics were just 2 points better defensively when Marcus Smart, who won the Defensive Player of the Year award, was on the floor.

any big can do it! :lol

The Jazz center led the NBA in ESPN’s Defensive Real Plus-Minus (http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/DRPM) and FiveThirtyEight’s Defensive Raptor (https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/) rankings.

Gobert averaged 14.7 rebounds which led the NBA for the first time in his career and finished third in blocks at 2.1 per game.

Just a kid from Saint-Quentin 🇫🇷

#1 in the league in rebounds per game (14.7)
#2 in defensive rating (103.3)
#3 in blocks per game (2.1)

The 7-1, 256-pound Gobert grabbed 14.7 rebounds per game, best in the NBA. He also blocked 2.1 shots per game, good for second in the league, and accounted for 4.3 defensive win shares, ranked third in the NBA.

Gobert has made the All-Defensive First Team every season since 2016-17. He has won Defensive Player of the Year three times — 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2020-21.

waive him and help everyone!

Yet another reminder that Rudy Gobert is a lock for the HOF. - 3x DPOY - 6x All-defense 1st team - 4x All-NBA (maybe 5) - 3x All-Star - Olympic Silver with France - NBA block leader - NBA rebound leader - All-Time leader in TS% and eFG% - 2nd All-Time in FG%

poor trolls :oldlol:

I find myself wondering what you think anyone not blown away by him thinks when presented with such information. That he won DPOYs and dunks a lot of dropped off passes which gives guys insane field goal percentages isn’t in dispute.

It’s like telling someone who hates on AI(like you) he’s an mvp, 4 time scoring leader, 10 time all star, all nba first team, and took a team to the finals. It’s common and undisputed information. Once the people who aren’t impressed have shown that they don’t care and the basketball results are nothing that matters I don’t know where you get “poor trolls” by repeating it.

What trolls are annoyed by a career recap?

If they were impressed by it to begin with they wouldn’t be laughing at him. Probably the case no matter who the player is.

If Marcus Smart has 99 1st place votes and missed only one 1st place vote but also has zero 2nd place does this mean one voter didn't vote him for 1st or 2nd team?

I'll never understand why voting for these things has been delegated to the Media.

I mean, the media is full of low-IQ idiots, some of whom probably post here in ISH, who have no credibility. Why would anything think their opinions are more legit than any other group of peoples'?

Bad look for Mikal in the Dallas series.

Was expecting more against Luka. Got too caught up in looking at the ball instead of the waist as do most ballers.

he's good but not great

he lead the league in total minutes though so that probably has something to do with making it

different criteria would change half the guys that made it

He's elite but handicapped by this era's soft rules. He's so used to playing D with no physicality and hand checking allowed that he forgot (along with all players today) about the huge advantage of being able to push the O player from spots and affecting them.
And you add in few rim protectors and perfectly spaced floor and all factors favor offenses.

you could say robert covington is elite and could easily have made the team but didn't get 1 vote

you could say jalen suggs is elite and more of a guard than bridges but nobody cared for whatever reason

and so on

Just nine seasons into his prestigious career, Gobert passed Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeen Olajuwon, and Ben Wallace for the most first-team selections with six.

Gobert has never been named to the All-Defensive second team.

The Jazz center passed Hall of Famer David Robinson and future Hall of Famer Dwight Howard with his fifth selection last season.
Gobert earned the honors after missing out on his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award, finishing third behind winning Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart (https://kslsports.com/484485/marcus-smart-wins-dpoy-over-gobert/), and second place Phoenix Suns forward Mikal Bridges.

The Jazz center led the NBA in ESPN’s Defensive Real Plus-Minus (http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/DRPM) and FiveThirtyEight’s Defensive Raptor (https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/) rankings.

Despite moving atop the list for most first-team selections, Gobert has some work to do to catch to other great defenders in NBA history.
Four players have been named to nine All-Defensive first teams including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, and Gary Payton.

Gobert can join Chris Paul, Walt Frazier, and Dennis Rodman with his next first-team selection. He can join Scottie Pippen, Tim Duncan, and Bobbie Jones with two more selections.

Duncan holds the most All-Defensive selections in NBA history with a staggering 15 nods, though only one second-team nod came as a center.
The All-Defensive team is one of the longest-running awards in the NBA dating back to the 1968-69 season.
