The NBA has not added a new team in almost two decades, but the next round of expansion could be coming soon.

During an appearance on 93.3 KJR, longtime columnist John Canzano reported that Seattle and Las Vegas have "already been earmarked" for expansion by the NBA.

According to Canzano, the expansion is set to happen after the league's current media rights deal expires in 2024.

Las Vegas and Seattle have long been rumored as NBA expansion targets.

Sources told The Spun last summer that a number of teams that were considering relocating were also "looking fondly" at Sin City, but it seems like they won't be able to move there, because the league is already planning on giving Vegas a team of its own.

As for Seattle, well, they haven't had an NBA franchise since the Sonics left town, and it is long overdue that the fans in the Emerald City have a men's professional basketball team to root for.

Vegas makes sense as does Seattle, but they probably should move 2 franchises to those locations vs creating two more teams.

I suppose you just move Memphis and New Orleans to the East to balance it out.

You only need to move 1 team East to balance it out. Likely timberwolves

If Jordan was buy the able to Milwaukee Bucks they would of been moved to Vegas (ie. - Vegas Bucks)

I like a friendly Rivalry between a LaVine-led Seattle SuperSonics, with Kemp era retro jerseys…. and Vancouver with whoever the new Jeremy Lin & Yao Ming are…

… a lot better than:

… hella point shaving scandals tainting the league image.

Im so nba'd out

They were Vancouver. As west as it gets. Not that any of that matters. The Hawks used to be in the west, San Antonio was in the East, and I think maybe the rockets too.

They should give Tijuana a team too.

Sure, why not?

The league is trending in the direction of one guard talent and 4 shooters anyway, so its not like talent will be that diluted.

Do the teams start playing in 2024 or is that just when the NBA makes it official?

disagree the new system will likely have divisions of 4 teams. Minnesota has the midwest teams in the East to join up with. Right now they're in a division with portland, utah, denver, okc
