wilt's the best player the games ever seen bar none

who cares his competition wasn't the greatest, if we drop mj or kobe or shaq back into the 60s does that suddenly make them bad at the game?

I wouldn't have Pistol Pete at #5 above a lot of guys, but the consistent criticism seems to always be the pre-NBA/ABA merger and the three point line. A lot of guys would put someone like Jerry West above Pistol Pete, but he didn't play with the 3 point line or post merger, Maravich did.

In fact, in the first year of the merger, Maravich won the scoring title, the only one of his career. And when the three point line was introduced, Maravich shot 10-15 from three in the regular season, and 2-6 in the playoffs. That's a 57% clip. It's a small sample size but I think it does show his ability to adapt. Does it mean he would shoot 40%+ from the distance for a career, who knows really?

well if they dominate more than wilt did, they're better players than wilt. Wilt's competition being bad means you cant compare his stats directly to some other great's. also this is unpopular but there are serious questions whether wilts even the best player of his own era. Russell is main guy but Ive seen convincing arguments oscar and west were better some years

uh, wilt had more competition at center with 8 teams, etc...than the trash two way wings mj faced.

And Wilt also changed his game and spread the ball out which lowered his PPG and all-time numbers because they didn't use role players back then.
