https://player.fm/series/the-bill-simmons-podcast-1512037/bostons-heart-attack-trip-to-the-finals-with-ryen-russillo

The Ringer’s Bill Simmons is joined by Ryen Russillo to discuss the Celtics toppling the Heat to punch their ticket to the NBA Finals, Miami’s near comeback, takeaways from the series, another big playoff performance from Jimmy Butler, a huge moment for the Tatum-Brown era in Boston, how the Warriors match up with the Celtics, and more (1:54). Then, they discuss Steph Curry “the malleable superstar,” the Timberwolves signing GM Tim Connelly to a megadeal, the Lakers hiring Darvin Ham as their head coach, a strange story out of MLB, and more (54:35).

He's been great, but him not willing to take shots in the clutch and thereby allow Marcus Smart to brick 3 open 3 pointers + brick another layup almost allowed a beyond inexcusable comeback by the Heat. He can't do that in the finals. If the Celtics go down, they should go down with him missing their shots, not Marcus Dumb.

There are still a few posting in the game thread last night. He just didn't give them much ammo... but he's still a bad night from someone saying Ingram is better.

He is getting doubled out on the perimeter. Passing the ball is the correct play, he can't beat a great defense all by himself. That's just a time when someone else has to step up and Smart does hit some baskets he's not Ben Wallace out there.

To be fair, they had already started the turnaround by the All Star Break. I bet if you found odds at the turn of the New Year, the Celtics wouldn't be that high.

Plus, regardless of Vegas odds, I didn't really think the Celtics had it to make it to the Finals. I'm glad I was proven wrong.

538 had them with the highest odds to make the Finals for a while there, and even right now I saw a post where they're 86% to win the Finals according to 538's advanced metrics, so anything short of a championship is a massive failure.

A Celtics poster predicted they would win the title before the playoffs even started.

I predicted they would make the Finals the moment that Middleton went out, so I'm not exactly where where this "no one" comes from.

538 is trash.

I'm rooting hard for the celtics but they are going to get bodied

just like the last round against the mavs, you'll have scrubs like kevon looney and wiggins have the series of their life while klay and curry sit back. warriors players already saw the last two heat celtics games probably as a team outing, and now they are in their locker room laughing because they know all of the scoring talent they have compared to the Cs.

curry and poole were the best shooters in the league this year. that doesnt even mention klay dray or wiggins

tatum needs to go mj while the rest of the team plays like lockdown D if they even want a chance to win
