So I guess California has approved a payment of 1.2 million dollars to every qualifying black resident. This amounts to a minimum of 800 billion dollars

Obviously, it won't be paid out at once but that amount is 2.5 times California's annual budget and last year they ran a deficit. Am I living in bizarro world or how is this actually sustainable? I can also imagine there will be backlash from Latino people as they are going to pay for most of it, as there will hardly be any white people left in the state within 10 years. Pressure will also now be on every other liberal state to give their blacks reparations too

I don't know any of the details behind this but my first thoughts are that California knows this money will just go directly back into the hands of CEOs and in the meantime help alleviate some poverty issues.

Even if you adjust budget for inflation increases(7.5% if not adjusted) that's still around 5% of the entire California budget spread out over 20 years going to a small percentage of it's people who also happen to be a negative contribution tax base. That's enormous. It's more than what California spends on their transportation and road infrastructure. But ok...

Handing out from the bottom up stimulates the economy. In reality money trickles up not down. I'm sure Cali is looking at in from that angle and hoping that it boosts their local economy.

The California governor said yesterday he would not support the cash payment reparations. As a democrat I'm not sure how politically dangerous this is for him as blacks make up only 5% of Cali's population. He won't say it, but fiscally he knows it will be a nightmare for future Democrats to balance the budget and huge sacrifices will have to be made if these payments go out
