Most of what happened condensed down. Game ends well before the video. They go into interviewing Jack court side, talking to the Lakers before even interviewing the spurs, and all so it’s not really as long as that makes it seem.

Tim absolutely took them apart. I forgot how much Shaq did that game too. And I think years of seeing him looking soft when he returned for those famous first few fat looking games threw off the perception of him in 03. In the playoffs there he looks in pretty good shape. Some definition in the arms. Normal bully ball.

Kobe had a terrible night after a great year and I’m sure we could get some mileage out of that if you wanted to but I’m more interested in the following….

Late in the game Manu hits a 3 and it shows the Spurs are 4-6 for the game.

And there are SO many people the current NBA would never let on a floor for important minutes. Literally 41 year old Kevin Willis putback dunks. Slava out there driving. Malik Rose reverse layups. The toe on the line 2s typical of the pre 3 revolution.

Just Duncan being shoved down your throat then Shaq coming back at you. I distinctly remember Eliteballer on here that season explaining why the regular season wouldn’t matter when they played in the playoffs and Tim just ate their lunch and drank their juice box. Good times.

Anyway….

That old style is so jarring after watching these playoffs.

Im gonna watch like a whole Sonics/Rockets 90s game tomorrow before the game and see if it even feels like the same sport.

Gary/Kemp/Hakeem/Barkley/Drexler before a game I can be sure there won’t be a single post up unless Klay catches Pritchard in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I think it will be fun. For a nut like me who cares about such things at least.

We should all watch that first quarter instead of tomorrows pregame show. See what differences stand out.

I remember being heart broken when Horry missed a game winner in game 5, shot went in and out. At that moment I knew the championship run was over.

Also a fun fact people forget, fans don't know how close we were to a Lakers-Celtics Finals in 2002, Pierce choked on some game ending free throws that would have given the Celtics a 3-1 lead vs the Nets, I believe.

I've always been a Laker hater, so seeing the Spurs knock them out that year was awesome.

If Horry hits that game-winner in game 5.

Shaq would have gone on to win his fourth finals MVP in a row and he would most likely be seen as a top 5 player ever nowadays.

Who knows, maybe Kobe guns for FMVP if they make it in '03. Though with how weak that Nets team was, they probably still win the title regardless.

If Kobe didn't bang up his shoulder on that reverse dunk against Minnesota in the previous round the Lakers would have won..

I will watch and enjoy this. :applause:

always used to root for the spurs when they went up against those lakers. always felt like shaq and kobe were too good and rooting for the spurs felt like rooting for the underdog

Didn’t he score like 33 a game in that series?

Even if Kobe gunned, he was just a superior player in 2003. Because of his off the court issues, Kobe was underweight in 2004 and lost most of the muscle he built the year prior.

LA would have faced a worse team in the Nets although his play would be better. Clearly.

Athletically, 2003 Kobe was at his absolute peak. That year was kinda like a mixture between 06 and 08.

Kone was eating pretty well and looking like himself:

No need for the injury blame game with something like that. Everyone twists something, bangs something, or has a strained whatever by then. He was hardly hobbled.

You could probably find something AI had hurting in every series of his prime. I doubt Kobe would accept that excuse of himself outside the heat of the moment.

Horry went 0/18 from the 3 in the series, including the missed wide open 3 that would have likely won the Lakers Game 5. I think they were drained emotionally after that loss as they were on pace for one of the GOAT Playoff comebacks @ San Antonio in Game 5 (they were down 18 in the 4th and got within 2 pts at the end) and instead fell down 2 - 3.

Game 6 was pretty good but Kobe had nothing left in the tank in the 4th quarter as they got their asses kicked. He needed knee & shoulder surgeries after the season and wasn't the same physically until '05.

devil's advocate but are we sure lakers beat mavs. shaq/kobe would eat but I think the mavs trio would too. That was the year with the GOAT comeback but you have to be a good team to jump out to that type of lead lol.
