CNN now wants to go to a traditional journalism format vs down in the trenches with the partisan reporting of FOX and MSNBC where it's getting it's ass handed to it? Gee that might actually work. What a bold idea. :lol

Let's just say Jim Acosta and Brian Stelter probably aren't making any extravagant purchases right now. :lol

CNN's new boss, Chris Licht, is evaluating whether personalities and programming that grew polarizing during the Trump era can adapt to the network's new priority to be less partisan.

Why it matters: If talent cannot adjust to a less partisan tone and strategy, they could be ousted, three sources familiar with the matter tell Axios.

Details: Licht wants to give personalities that may appear polarizing a chance to prove they're willing to uphold the network's values so that they don't tarnish CNN's journalism brand.

For on-air talent, that includes engaging in respectful interviews that don't feel like PR stunts. For producers and bookers, that includes making programming decisions that are focused on nuance, not noise.
Between the lines: CNN's tone became more partisan and combative during the Trump era and under the leadership of former CNN president Jeff Zucker.

To conservative critics, some on-air personalities, like Jim Acosta and Brian Stelter, have become the face of the network's liberal shift.
Be smart: Licht doesn't want to necessarily shy away from personality programming, especially in prime time, but he wants to ensure that partisan voices don't dominate in a way that harms CNN, a source notes.

Licht took the helm at CNN last month, shortly after longtime CNN president Jeff Zucker exited the network in scandal.
His priorities are widely seen as aligned with the leadership of CNN parent Warner Bros. Discovery.
CNN did not comment.
Catch up quick: Licht and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav haven't been shy about their goal of dialing back on partisan and alarmist programming in favor of traditional journalism.

I dont see this working.

Rational people in today's age aren't turning to CNN for credible information.

Irrational people - of which there are many - want to be force fed kool aid anyway, so a reversion to a less partisan format will not engage them.

CNN became what it currently is because neutrality wasn't competitive for them. Turns out theyre not very competitive this way either.

At the end of the day, people simply dont care about CNN anymore regardless of how it attempts to present itself.

Where CNN has always shined has been their live coverage especially during Breaking News reports. I remember as 9/11 was unfolding, I would always go back and forth between Fox News and CNN and CNN always had the better angle, the better visuals with a clearer picture and everything. That's where they thrived.

So I can see that if CNN cut back from their Opinion Shows, that there might be an increase in viewership just cause you might get people tuning just to watch the regular unbiased news.

However, if CNN were to have a show with a Conservative host that railed against the Left, then I would watch it. As well as millions of others. So what this tells you is that a majority of TV News watchers lean heavily Center and Right most likely. Seeing how Fox News dominates right now with Opinion television, one can naturally conclude that if CNN adopted the same format, that they'd see their ratings skyrocket. Liberals just aren't watching television from my experience.

if cnn would go with a more populist economic left model and stop focusing on the sensationalized culture war nonsense, they'd fare much better. if they held power centers and politicians to account, they'd do much better. if they shit on joe biden as much as they shit on trump, they'd do better. if they spoke for the the everyday american that deals with the same kitchen table issues no matter right or left, they'd do better. if they stopped acting as stenographers for the deep state and did some fuc*ing research, they'd do better.

...but we all know that'll never happen. "breaking news" sells. tugging at people's heartstrings sells. race & gender sells. propaganda sells. blame the ignorance of the country for cable news networks like cnn hanging on.
