Now that he is a decent shooter I think he could dominate as he has later in his career (ex: see how he struggled vs the Spurs vs how he feasted vs the Warriors). LeBron has not had a broken jumper most of his career. From what I remember his jumper was solid with Miami. Had seasons % wise where he shot very well from mid-range and 3 in those years. And that was like a decade ago.

Then how come he had a losing record vs the old, unathletic spurs and Mavericks?

The 80s may have been run and gun in the regular season but the playoffs was more halfcourt and a different intensity. And the paints were packed. It was a tough environment for a slasher which is why all the best players were either shooters or post players.

Would LeBron be great and if he had great team would win a ring or two? Sure. But Celtics and Lakers would win more still because we know they had GOAT chemistry on top of their great talent.
