Even if you believe he was the better player, based strictly off their body of work there's ZERO argument for Oscar being ranked over Shaq or Hakeem, who I think the majority of people would agree peak for peak were better players than him.

Oscar is without a doubt the most overrated PG ever. Not even the 3rd best PG of all time.

I would rank Steph over Oscar in a heartbeat as the only PG that can be considered better then him is Magic.

But man that debate between Curry and Magic would get really tight if Steph went back to back in 2023 while winning the MVP and finals MVP.

As Steph would have the same amount of rings and MVPs and finals MVPs as Magic if you count that 2015 finals MVP that should have been his.

Magic/Kareem can't both be top 5 or they would've been undefeated in the Finals instead of barely .500

One of them must drop and I choose the ball-dominator that can't defeat maximum defensive attention (carry scoring load in Finals) and therefore needs all-time scorers and 1st options at sidekick

Where are you getting these heights from? I don’t think they’re accurate bro.

I remember the first several years of his career Kobe Bryant was listed at 6 foot 7, now you can say that’s because the Afro, but they didn’t start listing him at 6 foot 6 until 2003.

Bill Russell was 6 foot 8 or maybe 6 foot 9.

LeBron James is 6 foot 8. People also usually greatly embellish his weight. He looks thicker and more built than most wingmen of his era, mainly because he has thicker more muscular legs than them. But at one point people were saying stupid shit like he was 275 pounds, he’s always been around like 240 to maybe max 255.

Larry Bird is actually closer to 6 foot 10 or 6 foot 11. Obviously each one of these guys you can subtract an inch to almost 2 inches off their height width shoes.

I’ve never heard of Kareem being taller than Shaq and Wilt Chamberlain. In fact I thought Wilt Chamberlain was slightly taller than Kareem and Shaq.

Why is Steph still being considered a point guard? I know that we are in the era of essentially positionless basketball now, with combo guards being more commonplace, but with his off ball movement and high scoring, he's essentially a shooting guard. Considering him a pg is the same thing as considering Bird a pf since that's the position he came into the league playing. Duncan is more of a true center than Steph is a pg.

It would be a disrespect to klay since they play together on the floor.

Ah = context and point of view and timetables and eyewitness accounts. I suggest the book by Dave Heeren - "Seventy Five". Mr. Heeren started watching NBA games in 1947 and developed the TENDEX system. In a nutshell here are some things to consider about the big O. He was not allowed to enter the NBA at 18 years of age. There was a clear statistical favoritism in Los Angeles to boost the assists totals of Jerry West, who was a great shooter but not a skilled playmaker. An example of this... Milwaukee playing in LA in early 70's had Oscar with 10 assists at halftime. When Oscar was asked about this he said "If the official scorer in Milwaukee would do this, I'd be averaging 15 assists instead of 8". The reason for the no assist was the Kareem would often receive the pass in the low post, with his back to the basket, and turn and put in an easy sky hook. This prevailed throughout the NBA except for LA. How good of a defender was Oscar? From pages 58 - 65 the author gives evidence of Oscar in all star games shutting down Cousy, Jerry West, Jerry Sloan, Earl Monroe and Elgin Baylor. Oscar played in these games in his first 12 seasons, and the East squad won 11 of the 12 games ( back when these were actually competitive) . Oscar's TENDEX had him as the best player in 6 of these games and he only was given the MVP 3 times in these games. Oscar had a 40 inch vertical jump. Mr. Heeren measures players by position against their opponents using the same TENDEX formula. He has Oscar as the best basket ball player ever - food for thought and a good book!

You're way off. Bill Russell was 6'9" 1/2 so he was over 6'10" in shoes. Larry Bird was definitely not 6'11' that's ridiculous, he was slightly shorter than Russell", so 6'9" is about right. Kobe Bryant's height was heavily inflated in his early years, he was only about 6'5" without shoes, same height as Jordan and Barkley. Also, Kareem has also been confirmed slightly taller than Shaq and Wilt, this is nothing new.

Not the case anymore with Bran and Steph making their top 10 case with players like Durant and Giannis looming as well. ESPN's list is still garbage but the same people who praised it when they tried to downplay Kobe's accolades are the ones now crying about it.

Oscar Robertson has no business being in the top 10 if we go by accolades but I guess he deserves respect for being one of the innovators of the style of basketball we see today, and he was as good as Wilt, Russell & West at the time but didn't have the help in his prime. Still ridiculous to rank him over KB though. ESPN still loves stats more than winning, which I guess is why they've been overrating Bran for the past 15 years.

Oscar led the best offenses in the league for 5 straight years with subpar talent and put up monster scoring numbers when factoring in efficiency relative to his era.

I don't have Oscar top 10 but there is a case to be made if you acknowledge the difficult circumstances of playing against Bill Russell's Celtics.

Either way, a very respectable list. No major red flags!

Oscar wasn't in their last top 10 list back in 2020:
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29105801/ranking-top-74-nba-players-all-nos-10-1

He was 11th, sandwiched between Shaq and Hakeem. So what exactly has transpired for him to get this bump 2 years later?
