Not really, several dudes had handles during the period but he was one of the best. In that era they handled the ball without carrying, these modern NBA player rely on carrying and palm to makes thier moves.

Exactly. I don't buy that the skill level today is higher at all.

The skill level of the best players is not greater. There are more well rounded players today becaue old school coaching philosphy prevented players from developing certain skills. Examples big men were supposed to let the guard bring up the ball, 3 point shots were discouraged, and considered low percentage shots. One on one, flashy plays were generally discouraged by coaches.

If you watch the skill competitions today, you can tell these modern players are not more skilled than players back in the day but I will admit Mike Conley's bag of tricks is impressive.
