and a 3rd!

Usher looks pretty good on paper except his shooting of course. One of the first super seniors that played 5 years in college and it looks like he's improved every year. With that experience he might end up playing this year if they trade Gobert

He’ll probably play almost exclusively in the G League.

Might be starting by the end of the year if the tank comes

both of Utah’s two-way spots are filled, with Juzang in one and Xavier Sneed in the other).

Sneed becomes restricted in a week I believe. I doubt he's back except maybe in summer league/camp/Stars. He didn't excite me much. I'd guess they can do better

The first thing you’ll notice with Cockburn is that he is a mountain of a man. Cockburn is 7’ tall with a 7’3” wingspan and will compete with Udoka Azubuike from day one to see who can shatter the backboard quicker come summer league.

I doubt Udoka is playing summer league. He was starting for the Jazz over Whiteside and did well. Also he's probably still rehabbing!

https://www.slcdunk.com/latest-utah-jazz-news-recent/2022/6/24/23181299/utah-jazz-sign-johnny-juzang-to-two-way-contract

The other interesting thing about this contract is that we might see Juzang get a lot of run. Last season, Trent Forrest received a lot of time while on his two-way contract over their exciting rookie, Jared Butler. With Quin Snyder out of the picture, it might not be the same story, but there is some recent precedent that this could mean time on the floor for Juzang.

Any two way player could end up playing. Forrest had no limit because of COVID rules. Who knows if that stays the same? Juang isn't playing unless there are injuries or Gobert is gone. Forrest might not play for anyone other than COTM? I think he will. He's good. If he could only hit some open 3's!

The Utah Jazz may be in the midst of the widest coaching search in recent NBA memory. In all, according to reports, they’ve interviewed at least 15 candidates for the job once held by Quin Snyder. But three weeks into the process, it looks like the team’s decision-makers are favoring the younger assistant coaches in their search for a new leader. In particular, it’s Celtics’ assistant Will Hardy that is considered by many league insiders to be a leading candidate at this point (https://www.sltrib.com/sports/jazz/2022/06/25/is-celtics-assistant-will/).
– via Salt Lake Tribune (https://www.sltrib.com/sports/jazz/2022/06/25/is-celtics-assistant-will/)

In terms of his relationships with the Jazz’s front office, it should be noted that Hardy and new Jazz CEO Danny Ainge’s time with the Celtics didn’t officially overlap. Another highly-considered candidate for the Jazz’s head coaching job is current Suns assistant Kevin Young (https://www.sltrib.com/sports/jazz/2022/06/25/is-celtics-assistant-will/).

https://saltcityhoops.com/the-utah-jazzs-coaching-search-is-different-this-time-around/

The last time the Jazz hired a head coach, it was clear exactly what type of outfit he would lead. The club was coming off a 25-57 season. They had five recent lottery picks each still working down the developmental path, but nobody who had averaged more than 16.2 points per game. A sixth lottery selection would join the youth brigade just weeks after the new coach was selected. In other words, it was clear to anybody involved in the process that the eventual coach would preside over a rebuilding unit’s climb back to relevance. Eventually, Quin Snyder was selected and did just that, taking a bad team with a lot of young talent and finding a way forward.

It was so clear that their late first round project blew up the tank by making them competitive!

On the surface, the Jazz gig is a chance to helm a very good team that’s hoping to remain competitive in the near term. But if continued stagnation (or a godfather offer for one of their stars) were to send the club in another direction, they could find themselves needing slightly different things from a clubhouse leader. That ambiguity about their future has added an intriguing — if also somewhat complicating — element to their ongoing search.

Gobert goes you are tanking, he stays you are competing. Same as it's been the past 7 plus years

If that is the approach — fit-based upgrades around their All-Stars with the goal of keeping the competitive window open — then their new coach’s job is to maximize the roster the short term. That’s a tall ask for a candidate pool made up mostly of first-year head coaches. It’s pretty unreasonable to expect a first-year coach to be as good as the leader Snyder developed into over the course of eight years in the role.

He's got to be better than that great leader's been the past 3 playoffs. He might make an adjustment or two!

Ime Udoka took his team to the Finals in his rookie season as head coach, but even he had to slog through an 18-21 start before things started to click in. (Interestingly enough, the Jazz were 28-10 at that same point in time, meaning Boston was sort of the anti-Jazz this past season: they got their crap together almost precisely as the same time that things were beginning to fall apart for Utah.) Similarly, Snyder started his Jazz tenure at 17-33 before he sussed out a way to prioritize the skill sets that would enable the Jazz to blaze a path back to relevance. But even then, Snyder’s first playoff berth didn’t come until his third season.

Not sure he ever sussed out anything? I just remember 1 night in December 2014 Gobert took a huge leap and they've been competing ever since

Xiao Yao You

https://saltcityhoops.com/calm-before-the-storm-jazz-still-have-options-after-a-quiet-draft-night/

While the ultimate goal of winning a title remains, they may not feel the need to push every chip in the center, like a LeBron-led contender would. They could still trade every possible first-round pick as well as pick swaps if they really wanted to mortgage their future. By not doing so, they preserve some options in case they decide to pivot later toward a more future-centric approach. For example, almost any trade scenario involving Rudy Gobert would result in the Jazz sending out the best player in the deal and almost assuredly taking a step back. Or even if they try to reunite Gobert with Donovan Mitchell and make changes to the core around them, if it doesn’t work, they could be forced to change gears at some point down the line.

Rudy stays you have a chance every night. He goes you become one of the worst teams in the league again. Hard to see it going any other way

Instead, the Jazz focused on acquiring the rights to a handful of undrafted free agents (https://t.co/wn3vlrdswG), signing UCLA’s Johnny Juzand to a two-way deal and then inking Exhibit 10 deals (basically camp contracts) with a few others. With recent success stories involving undrafted players like Gary Payton II, Alex Caruso, and Fred VanVleet, there’s increasing optimism of finding impact players among the undrafted ranks. Is a player drafted in the 50s that much more likely to turn into a rotation player?

More likely with a coach that will actually play them if they can help. Hopefully the new coach will do what COTM wouldn't do(unless they went to Duke of course)

Sacramento. The Kings took 6-foot-8 Keegan Murray over point guard Jaden Ivey. Could this point to increased availability of Harrison Barnes? The Kings are short on forwards, so interest in Bojan Bogdanovic or Royce O’Neale makes sense. I don’t think the No. 4 pick was ever in play for the Jazz.

Clarkson, Conley and maybe Gay. That's who they should look at moving

Washington. The Wizards are a logical landing spot for Mike Conley, and remain so. They kept their No. 10 pick, and if I were the Jazz, I’d be more interested in the Wizards players anyway. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma, and Rui Hachimura are all intriguing fits and some combination of those players presents a good framework for a Conley deal that helps the Jazz get bigger and younger.

you think the new coach will actually start a PF? :lol

Atlanta. We’ve heard plenty about the Gobert trade possibility — we’ll come back to that. The word is that John Collins remains likely to be traded. The Hawks drafted an offensive-minded wing in A.J. Griffin which could portend such a move. Whether or not Gobert is involved, the Hawks are an intriguing trade partner. One, they’re a franchise in need of a shakeup of their own. Two, they have multiple wings who could help Utah. Any of Collins, Kevin Huerter, and DeAndre Hunter would make the Jazz younger and longer.

and much worse

Chicago. The Bulls took 6-foot-7 Dalen Terry, who projects to be a solid role player from the get-go. Does Terry entice the Jazz at all in Gobert discussions? If I’m the Jazz, I’m not interested in Nikola Vucevic or Coby White, so who else can the Bulls offer in addition to Patrick Williams? Caruso or Lonzo Ball would bolster Utah’s perimeter defense, but there’s a massive talent gulf between Gobert and whoever the Bulls send back in a hypothetical deal.

that's why you should be looking for expiring contracts and assets not vets thinking you can actually win

The truth is, I don’t know. We’ve talked a lot about Gobert and Conley — a Conley trade seems more likely of the two. The Athletic’s Tony Jones has repeatedly said that the Jazz want to shift the point guard reins to Mitchell, which would in turn open the opportunity for a backcourt mate with more size and length. That could involve moving Conley to a bench role, but it makes a lot of sense to explore trades that bring back a starting-caliber wing.

A bigger pg would be better. Dejounte Murray anyone?

We haven’t talked much about Bogdanovic or O’Neale, and Jordan Clarkson’s name almost never comes up. All remain valuable to the Jazz, but should also draw interest from numerous teams. Similarly to Gobert, they shouldn’t be traded for the sake of making a move if the return isn’t sufficient. But I wouldn’t be shocked if any of them are dealt. The reality is that if the Jazz want to acquire a decent player, they’re going to have to send a decent player in return.

I'd guess Clakson's value to the Jazz just tanked. Who besides COTM would let Clarkson play the way he does? He should be traded regardless. He sucks!

Every team in the league wants more wings. The Jerami Grant trade — to Portland for a single future first-rounder — impacts the market for veteran wings like Barnes and Collins. We’ll see which teams move first, and how the Kings and Hawks value their players. While the Jazz really need length, the competition will be fierce.

Collins is a wing? Not sure Barnes is anymore

So even though a trade didn’t happen on draft night, a significant move could still be imminent — just don’t expect the Jazz to make a move for the sake of making a move. Prudence may be boring, but it is an important front office virtue.

a significant move is imminent thanks to COTM!

https://www.slcdunk.com/2022/6/27/23184687/why-a-rudy-gobert-to-the-hawks-deal-is-more-likely-post-draft

In summary, the report may be true on the surface. At the price Utah was asking, Atlanta’s not all that interested. But for a different price, maybe the Hawks are interested again.

He's one of the best players in the game rather anyone likes that he is or not. You better get a ton for him. You don't trade a statue every day. Be a first for the Jazz for sure

AJ Griffin is a 6’6” tall, 222 lb wing from Duke University. His wingspan stretches to 7’0” and will be just 19 when the season begins. Interestingly, he’s the son of current Utah Jazz head coaching candidate Adrian Griffin.

nice for a tank I guess

Ultimately the concern that saw him drop to #16 were the knees that kept him out of high school play Sophomore and Senior year. It feels similar to Michael Porter Jr. of the Denver Nuggets (https://www.denverstiffs.com). This could be a real hit, a pretty ideal backcourt mate to Donovan Mitchell and still young enough to piggyback on a rebuild should it come to that.

I think a big pg would ideal

There still are some big dominos that are waiting to fall before a Gobert trade will happen. #1 domino is Deandre Ayton. I would think that any team looking for a big would first try to get Ayton before moving for Gobert. Also, Atlanta does have Capela -- definitely not as good as Gobert, but they don't need to reach to get a center. Their main goal seems to be moving Collins. If they can move him for a different package like Murray from San Antonio without trading Capela, you have to think they would do that first.

One of the worst D's in the league. Capela not Gobert no matter what some think

To me it's not his defense that is the reason for possibly trading him. It's his offensive limitations. We saw from the play of Hassan and Dok that his production is replaceable at 10% of the cost. So if we can add 2 or 3 quality NBA players in a trade it's a no brainer to me.

yeah 29th in D with Dok and Whiteside. Top 5 D with Gobert. He's completely replaceable!

Not only Fournier for sure, maybe Barrett too.... you gain automatism between Rudy and Fournier.... and you avoid to see how Donnie is unable to lead a team...

I'm still truly convinced it's a mistake to give him the key of this team

yep unless you want to lose a lot

The other question now is how does this affect team decisions with free agency? Will the Jazz make moves based on this hire? As I mentioned before, will the Jazz want Hardy coaching a younger core that he can grow with, or do the Jazz feel like he can come in and help a pretty bleak locker room situation from last year? This will certainly make things interesting and, at the very least, it looks like it’s the first step for Danny Ainge leaving a mark on the Jazz has been made.

they should make moves based on the coach. They should know this after Lindsey's guy got him fired!

I like it. I am not jumping up and down thinking we got the next Pop, but I like getting someone from his coaching tree. I like that we hired someone young, and that he has some experience working with young stars. I am also excited to find out who his assistants are going to be, as they might hint the direction we're trying to move. I would love to get at least one of the former HCs who we interviewed to take assistant jobs, even if only for a year or two to help with the transition.

At his age and with his previous health issues Ainge certainly doesn't strike me as the type who wants to be doing the day-to-day wheeling and dealing, which is why the only way i'd see Zanik leaving is of his own accord. Ainge is there for high-level decision making and oversight, not the nitty gritty stuff.

Tony Jones said they gave Hardy a 5 year deal because they're aware of the fact that a rebuild *may* be required, so want to give him the confidence his job didn't hang on just making a deep playoff run. The plan being they'll gun for it over the next 2-3 years, if it doesn't work out, then obviously Mitchell probably wants out and then that's when the rebuild has to happen.

The talk on Hardy is he's an elite tactician and his defensive scheming and adjustments before and during games is at a high level, which is one reason he's so highly regarded around the league. Sounds like there will be the demand that there's less reliance on Gobert being the clean up man and a high level accountability from 1-5 to be strong on D. Whether he has the personnel who can achieve that is the question at the moment.

don't they usually get 5 year deals? Not many make it close to that long.

I don't think they're necessarily that far away. Need a coach to demand defensive effort from everyone including Mitchell which COTM couldn't do

"We showed that we brought everyone back," he said. "I mean, that was not an easy feat. Like, it's probably something that doesn't get talked about enough that it was not easy to get everyone back after that Clippers loss. And get everyone dialed in.

everyone wasn't dialed again. and COTM and Clarkson should have been long gone!

"But, I think, we showed that we're willing to go in if we think we can go. We liked the percentages. We liked where we were at. I think we owed it to everyone to go run it back that way. And you know, unfortunately, we fell short for whatever reason, but I think there's probably your answer."

just like the last time the Jazz payed the tax it wasn't well spent

Last summer, the Jazz traded Derrick Favors' bad contract (along with a first-round pick) to the Oklahoma City Thunder, which helped save the organization upwards of $30 million in luxury tax payments.

I saw that more of a getting better move than monetary. Whiteside was better as bad as he is

Last season, they traded Miye Oni to Oklahoma City, which saved them another $2.4 million. The team followed that up by moving Joe Ingles for Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Juancho Hernangomez, cutting off another $11 million in tax payments.

Just cause they saved money it doesn't mean that was the reason they made those deals. Oni was more for flexibility and the fact that he fell out of favor with COTM anyway. The other was just getting something for Ingles

Currently, the Jazz are about $5 million over the newly projected tax line of $150.2 million with just 11 players on the roster. Now, Utah can cut that down by waiving Hernangomez's deal (his $7.4 million deal becomes guaranteed on Thursday), but Utah would be back over the tax by signing minimum contracts to get to the league minimum 14.

that's why it would be nice to know what you plan on doing. He needs to go if you are tanking.

There could be some players that could help in those ranges — Brooklyn's Bruce Brown, Golden State's Gary Payton II and Otto Porter, to name just a few. It'll likely help that the Jazz hired a coach before free agency began, too; Hardy can now present a vision to free agents about their role and fit in his yet-unknown system.

could hurt. Some vets might not want to play for a kid

That said, Utah being a trade team during free agency is still a likely outcome, despite the lack of movement during the draft. The Jazz want to build around Donovan Mitchell and stay at least competitive in a Western Conference that continues to improve across the board. With that as the goal, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered.

you aren't going to be competitive with a team built around Mitchell ever. Has no one been paying attention? He can score points. He can't carry a franchise. Few can. One of them that can you are talking trade

Will Ainge be willing to accept less than Gobert's value?

why would you? He's one of the best players in the game. He can be the difference between the lottery and one of the best teams in the league

Is Mike Conley still in Utah's plans?

hard to imagine unless Mitchell is gone

Can the Jazz find moves to make them younger and more athletic on the wing?

Are they tanking? If you trade Gobert you better get younger and more athletic because you will suck !

Or will the Jazz end up running it back with the hope that a new coach can help mend the locker room?

Clarkson and Conley need to go and maybe Gay as well. I'm sure Hardy already knows which guys fit what he will want to do. Only question is are you tanking or building around your best player still?

“It seems to me that his teammates don’t respect what he does well,” Chiesa added. “All I know is this: if we had on our team the leading rebounder in the NBA we would say, ‘we are so lucky.'”

leading rebounder, defender, screener, roller...Time for some new teammates

Having a multiple NBA Defensive Player of the Year on the team is a plus for the Jazz so keeping him wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world. However, the Jazz have seen what their playoff chances are with one of the best defenders and rebounders in the league, and it has not resulted in the outcome the team and fans want.

We've yet to see him without COTY standing by and doing nothing

A change might just be needed either in shipping Gobert in exchange for talent, or maybe Hardy and the new staff can get more out of Gobert and achieve the Jazz ultimate goal of bringing owner Ryan Smith a parade he desparately wants.

I had hopes but Smith thinks Mitchell can be built around. He also thought keeping COTM was a great idea. He's clueless.

Conley, Clarkson maybe Gay

From everything I am hearing the Toronto Raptors do have interest in trading for a Center. One team told me they prefer Rudy Gobert to Ayton. But I don't think that OG Anunoby would be enough to get Gobert out of Utah.

expiring contracts and assets. Mitchell isn't leading you anywhere but the lottery

The constant rumor that hasn’t been put out has been the Raptors interest in Gobert. As the interest from Atlanta waned, it never died down with the Raptors. It could mean nothing, but it’s clear they like Gobert but maybe they aren’t as interested in paying the pricetag that Ainge has put out there. If there’s one thing we’ve learned this offseason it’s that Ainge holds to his price point with a player. If the other team isn’t willing to meet the asking amount, Ainge won’t make a move. Things are about to get crazy, but we’ll see here soon if something actually happens.

Obviously. Gobert, Siakam, Barnes and Van Fleet with the best front office in the league. They are one of the favorites instantly

5 years ago today we traded for Ricky Ruuuubio!

Only took a future protected 1st round pick that ended up being Josh Okogie.

I remember how excited I was when we got him. Didn’t exactly pan out like I expected but we took a chance.

it panned out exactly like I expected. Never made any sense

I’m sure lots of teams are, but according to Tony Jones Donovan is untouchable and then JC is next on the list of guys the Jazz want to trade the least.

which again despite Ainge's track record it's really hard to have much faith in the front office, Mitchell, Clarkson and COTM oh my!!! :facepalm

DM, Ball, Bogey, Williams and Vuc as starters with Royce, Mike, JC and Juancho filling out a 9 man rotation. I don't know how realistic this is, but that team could be fun as hell to watch.

it's always fun to lose!. That team would look much different by the trade deadline when the tank becomes official

The Jazz were spiraling at the last half of the season, they looked broken. Your right that it doesn't all fall on RG but with his contract and limitations a move must be made IMO.

New owner, FO, coach and a new team. It did not work the way they were so go all in on fixing it. I do not want to continue to see the same old guys, with the same energy and effort. I don't see RG leading the Jazz anywhere and all the fan sentimentality to hang on to the past is crazy.

He has less limitations than all but a few players in the league. He can't guard 5 guys by himself or score without touching the ball! New coach. Better roster. See what happens!

Both Donovan Mitchell and Jordan Clarkson are below-average defenders according to FiveThirtyEight’s RAPTOR (https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/) projection. While both players are excellent scorers and playmakers, the Jazz needs to shore up their defensive efforts in the backcourt. Having an All-NBA center means a lot less when players can meet him in the paint whenever they want because perimeter players can’t hold their own, and that’s exactly the pitfalls the Utah Jazz have found themselves in.

come on Rudy step it up already!

Yes, the Jazz would have to give up Jordan Clarkson, but they would receive Tre Jones (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jonestr01.html), one of the best pure young defenders in the league. While he struggles to score from deep, he is a great ball-handler and would allow Donovan Mitchell to play off-ball a lot more. The Spurs would also include Jakob Poeltl (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/poeltja01.html), who is one tier below bigs like Gobert, Jokic, and Embiid. While it’s a downgrade at the center, Poeltl could help keep the Jazz in contention as he locks down the paint.

any move that gets Clarkson out of town I am for! It won't be the Spurs

With Gobert gone and not adding any major scoring threats, this would clearly be Mitchell’s team, and he would have the green light and keys to the offense. On the other side of the ball, the downgrade at the center is not actually a huge hit, and adding Jones would be a nightmare for opposing guards.

yeah with Poeltl they wouldn't miss a beat!

By moving young pieces around, the Jazz could make a productive deal for both teams. Yes, Utah would have to give up two project players in Jared Butler and Nickeil Alexander-Walker and take on the absurd Markelle Fultz (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/f/fultzma01.html) contract, but Jordan Clarkson is worth letting go if it means adding a young and defensive-minded guard in Cole Anthony (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/anthoco01.html).

you aren't getting Anthony and why would you unless it's for Mitchell? Small back court

The Magic would be amenable to this trade because it means they can pair second-year shooting guard Jalen Suggs and Paolo Banchero with a tried-and-true point guard in Clarkson, and they could finally compete for a playoff spot in the East.

Clarkson the tried and true pg! :lol

Of course, the Jazz project as a trade team. According to league sources, Utah has received significant interest from multiple teams regarding starting wing Royce O’Neale. (https://theathletic.com/3392116/2022/06/30/utah-jazz-free-agency/?source=nbatw) O’Neale has been a fixture in Utah’s starting lineup, almost since his rookie season, and is one of the shining examples of the past Jazz administration’s ability to develop talent.

Multiple league sources tell The Athletic that the Jazz won’t extend a qualifying offer to forward Eric Paschall, (https://theathletic.com/3392116/2022/06/30/utah-jazz-free-agency/?source=nbatw) thus making him an unrestricted free agent. Paschall came to the Jazz last summer through a trade with the Golden State Warriors. He had good moments, including his postseason run against the Dallas Mavericks, where he made an impact in Game 3, which the Jazz lost.

– via Tony Jones @ The Athletic (https://theathletic.com/3392116/2022/06/30/utah-jazz-free-agency/?source=nbatw)

Those are Mitchell's guys. You sure about that?

The Jazz have interest in bringing Danuel House Jr. (https://theathletic.com/3392116/2022/06/30/utah-jazz-free-agency/?source=nbatw) back. By the end of the season, he was playing at a starting level. He’s a tough and athletic two-way wing, the kind who should garner significant interest on the open market. Because the Jazz don’t have his Bird rights, they may well have to use all or part of their midlevel if they want to bring him back. If not, they could offer him a vet minimum and hope that’s enough to stave off other offers.

– via Tony Jones @ The Athletic (https://theathletic.com/3392116/2022/06/30/utah-jazz-free-agency/?source=nbatw)

Paschall should draw interest on the open market, according to sources. (https://theathletic.com/3392116/2022/06/30/utah-jazz-free-agency/?source=nbatw) He’s a terrific athlete for his size, gets to the basket off the dribble and is a capable scorer. His absence from the roster means the Jazz have one more forward spot they need to account for as free agency opens.

Tony Jones: Royce O’Neale to Brooklyn for a first had been building momentum for multiple days, according to sources. The Jazz need future trade capital. (https://*********.com/social/) The Nets took him with an exception. Now the Jazz have a bunch of open roster spots.

One NBA executive suggests a trade where the Nets trade Kyrie to the Los Angeles Lakers and get three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert in return. “You could do three teams, Kyrie to the Lakers, Gobert to Brooklyn, and Russ to Utah, with the Jazz probably buying him out. That’s a longshot, though,” the executive said to Heavy’s own Sean Deveney (https://heavy.com/sports/brooklyn-nets/kyrie-irving-nets-jazz-rudy-gobert/). “It could be something that happens during the season, if the Nets get on the court and things go sideways — Ben Simmons is still not healthy, Durant is not happy, they’re struggling. At that point, the Nets are pretty much out of leverage, and the Lakers could send Westbrook and a pick for Kyrie, and it’s doubtful the Nets would get a better deal. Again, it is a long shot, but it is realistic.”

I'm gonna guess they moved O'Neale out cause Danny is losing hair over a lack of picks and they are gonna keep Hernangomez on a cheaper deal. Starting 5 is mostly the same ATM, but they've got about $20 million in TPE now that they could perhaps take some players back from a team looking to do a salary dump to free up space to sign a FA.

Need more guys like O'Neale, House, Juan, Forrest not less. Clarkson, Conley and maybe Gay is where I'd have looked first

Yea, the "get better on the perimeter on D" part certainly isn't looking like it's being worked on with who has left vs who has stayed.

Finally, the Jazz did not extend a qualifying offer to Trent Forrest either. And what do we know about Forrest? He’s a player that’s pretty close to Donovan Mitchell. Here he is just a few days ago with Mitchell at Louisville.

didn't know Trent was especially close to him. O'Neale was obvious since they joined the team

which describes Rudy to a t. He'll fit in fine

Maybe if it were Barrett, EF and those picks I would jump. Otherwise probably pass. Knick would actually be good for any years with C Randle Brunson and DM in their prime. That makes those picks pretty average and probably All outside the lottery.

small back court and Randle. Good luck with that shit show!

The problem with sending Donovan the message that it's not all about him (by waiving or trading all of his friends on the team) is that I think Eric Paschall is actually a player the Jazz could have retained on a small contract and developed into a valuable rotation player, based on snippets of good play when he was actually given minutes last season--regardless of his connection with Donovan Mitchell. It makes me think of the old colloquialism, "don't cut off your nose to spite your face!"

he's looked like an end of the bench energy guy to me. He's still fairly young so maybe that can change?

Shortly before news of Kevin Durant's trade request surfaced, the Brooklyn Nets acquired Royce O'Neale in a trade with the Utah Jazz. The trade was considered odd from the Utah perspective in sending out a starter for a first round pick.

I hardly think it's odd but he certainly wouldn't have been the first guy I'd have looked to move. Maybe he got the most return? If Philly sucks this year for some reason the Jazz could have one of the top picks in the draft next year. Sounds like even if it's the 30th pick it will be like a lottery most years. I'm surprised he brought that much and from a team that will be rebuilding it appears!

Windhorst also outlined that the pattern currently on display with the Jazz mirrors how Danny Ainge initiated a rebuild of the Boston Celtics in 2013 when they traded out Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry and even Doc Rivers and then hired Brad Stevens.

That team was old. Gobert has never been better than he was last year. How much longer he can play at that level remains to be seen but he has hardly started his decline. Mitchell was getting better until post all star break for whatever reason that was.

Darren Wolfson: I know I’m on record saying it’s hard to see Gobert actually landing here. But the #Timberwolves interest in pairing him with KAT continues to be very real. (https://*********.com/social/) Former Utah ass’t Dell Demps now in Wolves front office has the book on him.

he would be the best or at least 2nd best player on that team depending on ANT's development. He wouldn't be the highest paid though! Gobert's deal with each super max deal signed by guys that haven't carried their teams like Rudy has. Legit big 3. They would be one of the best teams in the league instantly

Jazz aren't going to want D'angelo so at least one other team would have to be involved I imagine. Jazz should be after young players, expiring contracts and assets if they get rid of Gobert.

Looks like it would work without D'Angelo. If they were going to do it Minnesota actually looks like a good team to do it with. A bunch of really young guys and picks this year. Expiring contracts. Any two of Beasley,Beverley and Prince works. All good players that could be moved again.
Then you get what you can for Bojan, Clarkson, Conley and Gay,

There's Mitchell and 7 very young guys that have at least shown something already with 3 1sts and 2 2nds from this year to boot plus what ever else you get from the trade(and the 2023 Philly 1st) and from trading Conley, Bojan, Clarkson, Gay and whatever two expiring vets come from Minny(Beverley/Prince/Beasley). Probably have to give up something to get rid of Gay or package him in another deal. Minnesota certainly looks intriguing to me if you have to trade a statue. Get under the tax(this trade gets them a couple million closer). Get younger. Collect assets. Hope to get as many picks next year as possible. The Stars should be good again anyway!

Minnesota is left with a big 4 with Russell plus 1 of Prince, Beverly or Beasley and McGlaughlin. They might want in on Conley, Bojan, Clarkson and Gay too?

Somehow the trade works with Gobert and all the Jazz vets and all the expiring contracts(Russell expiring too) and young guys on Minny and gets the Jazz under the tax. Get a couple more teams involved that want some of these vets and want to throw more young guys and assets towards the Jazz
