She's the GOAT, but pulled her self out of competition, leaving her team to fend for themselves in the Tokyo Olympics. And in this era that's viewed as courageous. And maybe it was smart, if she wasn't feeling it. Was she feeling pressure? Could that pressure lead to injury? Would it had led to something catastrophic if we were in past eras and she continued competing when she wasn't feeling it?

When you consider the era, quitting when you're representing your country due to mental health issues would be considered courageous and worthy of the Medal of Freedom. Which is given to individuals with "significant societal, public or private endeavors." And quitting due to mental health qualifies in this era. It inspires. And as well as her dominant past.

And for the Biden administration and identity politics, even more reasons for being African American. They couldn't actually care less about the person.

There's also a nurse who got the medal only because she's the 'first' person to receive the COVID vaccine in the US.

I'd say Simone Biles contributions to the nation are way way higher than hers.

Biles may go down as the best gym athlete of all time in the USA.

However her record in the Olympics proves it takes more nerves and reserves to cap a career.

I have to think she obtained the award for her stats as a US gym athlete.

I wouldnt have given this medal to Simone Biles, but at least she is one of the most accomplished gymnasts of all time... How the hell did Meghan Rapinoe get a medal of freedom? She had a good run in the 2012 Olympics, but other than that she has not done shit in her entire career (aside from bitching about how much she hates america)
